    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I feel like the experience I gained whilst working at Deloitte will stand me in good stead for my return to the firm and in my future career. I feel like my abilities were definitely stretched throughout the year, which definitely helped me to learn and make a valued contribution

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I worked with some fantastic people during my time at Deloitte. Colleagues consistently went out of their way to support me - especially at the beginning of my placement. I had one particularly great manager who gave me a large amount of responsibility - but was always there to guide me when I needed it. Also, as a placement student it was brilliant to be working with so many other young graduates!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I worked with some fantastic people during my time at Deloitte. Colleagues consistently went out of their way to support me - especially at the beginning of my placement. I had one particularly great manager who gave me a large amount of responsibility - but was always there to guide me when I needed it. However, there were other managers who were slightly more 'hands off' - which did lead to some confusion and disorganisation at times.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had a lot to do! I was always placed on a project so never spent a lot of time in the office doing internal projects which are in general more relaxed. I enjoyed having lots to do - but sometimes the long working hours on top of travelling to client site were tiring.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given ever-increasing amounts of responsibility on placement. Towards the end of my year at Deloitte I was confident in my abilities and what I could achieve, and I was given more responsibility than I ever expected for a placement student. Taking a whole year's placement definitely gives you time to develop and take some real responsibility - rather than spending 12 weeks on an internship.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My degree doesn't directly related to the work I did at Deloitte - so in this sense I wouldn't say my placement year has helped me in my degree. I know that having a name like Deloitte on my CV will be great if I did ever want to apply elsewhere though, and they offered a huge amount of training opportunities that would be applicable to many business jobs.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • To be honest - I didn't spend a lot of time in the Deloitte London Office as I was always away on client site. The atmosphere isn't great to be honest! It's very corporate and quiet - however they are building a new office which is designed to be much more open and flexible. The Deloitte Digital offices in Farringdon are great though!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement scheme has been running for a few years now - so I feel like they are set up with how to organise it. There were a couple of things that I believe could be improved - for instance during our training we were separated from the graduates for a great deal of it. I feel like this was a missed opportunity, as we ended up working with the grads, doing the same roles, so it would have been better to have a chance to get to know them during training.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel like Deloitte invests a lot in training - we had a full six weeks of training when we joined. Followed by another 2 weeks later on in the year and many opportunities to go on other training schemes. However when a project is really busy - training definitely takes a backseat (as it should) - so I feel like I didn't get to take advantage of the training opportunities as much as I would have due to project commitments.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a graduate job with Deloitte - which I've accepted!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social side of Deloitte is really great - they have a whole society dedicated to organising socials for the graduates/ placement students every month. With my other placement colleagues, we formed a great network which really helped us throughout the year - we even went on a day to Ascot together!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's London so very expensive! However, since I was always working away from London I lived in hotels, which the company paid for. Since my parents live close to London, I was able to stay at home and commute into London when I needed to - so I actually managed to save a lot on rent/accommodation during my yea. However, obviously this isn't possible for everyone.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • In London it was great - obviously! However I was placed in other parts of the UK which were definitely not great.. I was placed abroad for a few months as well - where the nightlife was great - but you couldn't really appreciate it as much as you should as you had a lot of work. However, being placed somewhere other than London does mean that you can save money for when you do go out in London!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • During the week I was always at client site so I had very limited opportunities to socialise with my friends after work. However if you were placed on a project in London then Deloitte has many sports/arts/social societies to join. I feel like the one thing Deloitte could encourage more is to get involved in something after work - it's good to clear your head.
