The Role
I found the internship very enjoyable as I was given responsibility from the first day. There was rarely a time when I was bored or had no work to do and thus I had a lot of exposure during the length of my placement. I was also given a lot of guidance as well an increasing amount of responsibility as the internship progressed. This ensured that I kept doing and learning new things about the industry and the job.
Given the amount of work I was assigned from my team and the number of different people I worked with over the period of my internship, I would say I felt very valued by my colleagues. I was consistently handed work that was relevant to each project and felt I was contributing on a daily basis.
I would say that I was given a large amount of support and guidance by my colleagues and supervisor from the beginning of my internship. At an early stage I was encouraged to ask questions and was reassured that I shouldn't hesitate to seek advice. All those around me were very supportive and helped me gain a large amount of experience and knowledge from my short time with the company.
I was busy on a daily basis and was happy to be so as I felt this was a large contributor to the amount of knowledge I gained during my internship. Being busy meant I was constantly exposed to different aspects of the job which allowed me to have a very realistic view of what a permanent position looks like at the company.
I was given a lot of responsibility even given my little prior experience and time at the company. From the first week I was working on materials that would be presented to clients and was heavily involved in some important projects. The responsibility and work I was given was great and allowed me to feel like a true analyst in the team.
I received a lot of training during the internship and extensively developed both my interpersonal and technical skills. Although not directly applicable to my degree, the skills I gained and enhanced will definitely help in any future group work I do as well as any work that requires prior knowledge in finance.
The Company
The general atmosphere was quite collegiate and friendly with many of the employees being very approachable.
The internship was organised very well. A week of training at the start helped me transition more easily when introduced to my team. We also had weekly meetings with other teams in order to learn more about the industry and it's different sections. It was also very clear when we would be reviewed and what the process was.
At the start of internship there was a week long training course to provide all the interns the basics of accounting, excel and valuation. This proved extremely helpful for the length of internship. Apart from this there were also weekly meetings with other teams in order to provide insight into the different industries and divisions of investment banking.

Future employment prospects are extremely appealing because a successful intern will be offered a full-time position as an analyst in the bank.
The Culture
Due to the occasional long hours there wasn't a lot of time for fellow placement students and colleagues to socialise during the week days of the internship. Having said that, group dinners as well as after work drinks were organised with varying frequency depending on the team the intern was placed with. Also, there was a good social scene amongst interns during the weekends of the internship.
Given that the internship took place in London, the cost of living and socialising was quite expensive. However, in my opinion this was worth it as the social scene in London is very good with lots of things to do all year round from different cultural events to good nightlife.
The nightlife in London is excellent with a large array of options and areas to go out in. Living in one of the most vibrant cities in the world is definitely a huge perk for any intern or full-time employee. I personally really enjoyed it and would happily stay in the city for a longer amount of time.
Due to the length of the weekly hours there wasn't much time to get involved in many activities outside of work, especially during the week.
