The Role
I enjoyed it very much it was a very valuable experience
I was given many responsibilities and my opinion was frequently asked during team meetings
Almost all the skills and knowledge acquired were on the job. My seniors were very friendly and open to help me anytime. Most importantly is to ask questions
My days were pretty busy, especially in the second half of the year during busy season. Usually worked around 12 hours
During my last months, as the teams were familiar with me and my capabilities, I was given a lot of responsibilities. I was able to hold discussions with the client independently and perform audit procedures with little to no support.
My accounting skills greatly improved and as a result I was able to take advanced modules at university. Also the communication skills I have acquired were really useful in my final year
The Company
The Office in Canary Wharf was new and modern. The atmosphere at all times was great and everyone was really happy to help
The work placement was very well organised. We started with an induction week, which familiarised us with the company and each other. After which we attended college as part of our ICAS qualification, at the end of which we had to take 2 exams. After that we had another week of training in a very nice hotel outside London. Everything was provided by the company. We had interactive case studies and team work activities.
My studies towards ICAS qualification were supported by the company. I think EY really invests in its people and makes sure that everyone is knowledgeable before starting on the client site.

Future employment is very appealing. It is a place where you can build a strong career.
The Culture
Yes definitely. Because of the training and networking opportunities we had at the beginning of the placement, I met a lot of placement students who I later became really good friends with.
The cost of living in the London area is really expensive. As I was close to Canary Wharf there were not many socialising opportunities so I had to travel to the city centre.
Very quite. No nightclubs next to Canary Wharf. It was difficult to travel at night because the only public transport available were the night buses, which were sometimes late. But with the introduction of the night tube in London the situation is different now.
I got involved in some activities during the August-November months. But during busy season because of lack of time, I didn't get a chance to do any extra activities
