The Role
Overall the experience was very enjoyable. I got a chance to work with very talented people, from whom I learned a great deal. I enjoyed the office environment and the culture of the company. Everyone was very helpful and respectful. The firm provided great opportunity to network and get to know people from different teams.
Colleagues were very helpful and encouraging. They wanted me to succeed and complete the internship reaching all the key goals set for the internship. I was given additional responsibility and I felt that I was really adding value to the team. They were giving constructive feedback and guiding throughout the internship process.
I got the most support and guidance from my direct supervisor. Anyone I approached for help during the internship, were very helpful and were happy to guide me and give feedback. Most senior people were also happy to help and give feedback. Overall I felt the organisational structure was flat senior people were really accessable.
It different throughout the internship. Some days I had to stay late to finish the assigned task and meet the deadlines. However, my team didn't put pressure on me to work late hours. Some days it was not busy at all. I felt that I had to ask people to keep me busy during most of the time. Overall I think internship was not very busy. On the other hand it was good, because we had more time to network and meet new people and spend time on training.
Most of my time I spent on the tasks that were not very critical for the business. However, some projects I worked on during the internship really added value to the business. Since I didn't have much experience with the role, my team was trying to keep me busy with simple tasks in the beginning and later in the process I was given more responsibility.
Since I study for my advanced degree the skills I developed are more useful for professional career rather than academic. I am an international student and working in international environment was something new for me, which will be very useful in the future. One of the key skills I learned during the internship was research skills which will be very useful for my academic work.
The Company
General atmosphere was usually very friendly with a lot of opportunities to meet other people, socialize and communicate with other people. Office provides all the resources one can need, including spaces where you can have a confidential call, client meeting, team meeting, coffee chat or just a talk to a friend.
Internship was set up very well, however I felt it could be better organised in terms of social and networking events for interns. We were given clear goals which we had to reach during the internship, but I didn't feel they were very challenging. I felt like the my team didn't expect me joining their team and didn't have enough tasks to give me from the beginning and I had to ask for it all the time.
Online training was provided, however I learned most of the things from my teammates. Company can do a better job in terms of training the interns. We were not given any hard or soft copy of the training material which would help kick start the first week of the internship. Since my team didn't know what is my level of knowledge of the function I will be working they couldn't prepare for the good training plan.
It is appealing in terms of the work environment and culture of the company. I liked the people very much and I feel I can work with these people on a long term basis. I am very excited to join my team for a full-time opportunity and am confident that EY will provide perfect environment to build a successful career and long term learning environment.
The Culture
There was a perfect social environment in my team which I enjoyed the most. Everyone in my team were very nice and interesting people to have a conversation with. I enjoyed spending good time with my teammates after work or during lunchtimes. It was one of the best experiences I had in my career up to now.
Since I am international student in London for me it was very expensive.
I didn't go out in the area I worked. I lived in the different part of the city.
Not many, The internship was very short and focused on getting to know people and get used to the job function. 6 weeks of internship doesn't really give you enough time to do different things outside of the work. I think if I join full time there will be many more opportunities to get involved outside of work. I hear the full-time employees have much more fun with the activities outside of work.
