The Role
I had an incredible time working at TLC Marketing. The combination of being at an exciting, fun agency, getting to work on huge leading brands and with a great group of people made it a year to remember and I am extremely grateful for the experience and would recommend to anyone.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues, being given a lot of responsibility and working with different departments meant that different people were relying on you but it was a great feeling being a valued team member and an important part of the business. This is something larger companies may not be able to offer placement students. The 'family feel' to TLC made going to work everyday a pleasure and I have come away with some friends for life.
I felt a huge amount of support from my supervisor. Working a small team meant we worked closely on projects however I always felt I was able to ask for help and guidance when it was necessary and a lot of that came from feeling very comfortable with the people around me. This meant I was able to grow and develop my marketing knowledge greatly throughout the year due to the huge amount of support I received.
As a tactical marketing agency, workload increased and decreased as more projects and briefs came in however there was always something to work on, whether it was a brief for a new client or an internal project to support the team, you never feel bored or at a loose end! Although sometimes it can feel manic and hard work, the whole team really come together and it'd great to be part of something so challenging and rewarding.
I felt i was given a huge amount of responsibility during my placement, which steadily increased throughout my time there. Being able to work independently and make my own decisions was an incredible life skill I could develop at TLC and also made the work completed extremely rewarding.
During my year I learned such a huge range of skills which will stay with me for life. These ranged from marketing knowledge and application to interpersonal and social skills such as communication and organisation. I feel extremely lucky I had the opportunity to learn these at TLC amongst some incredible people and would choose this placement all over again if I had the chance!
The Company
Fun, exciting and sociable!
Very well organised, there was clear support from supervisors and managers and inductions set up with the whole office in order to help find your feet and get to know everyone.
I received everything I needed in terms of training and development, a lot of which came from my supervisor who had years in the industry and was therefore able to pass on invaluable knowledge which I wouldn't have learned from university.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
There are great job prospects at TLC Marketing if you make a good impression, with a previous intern rejoining just as I left and also opportunities for myself to return in the future!
The Culture
Yes, they are a hugely sociable group of people who love going out together and having a good time! Whilst I was there we had incredible summer and christmas parties, staff picnics, numerous pub trips, bowling nights as well as drinks in the office every Friday and constant opportunities for fancy dress and fundraising!
The cost of London is obviously more expensive then other areas however I was able to live off the wage i received and enjoy a good social life by budgeting carefully and organising my finances. And living in London is an unforgettable experience!
Being based in central London meant the nightlife was limitless and I got the opportunity to really make the most of it whilst on placement.
There were a huge amount of opportunities! As well as staff social events there were groups was lunchtime running clubs and yoga classes, meals out every Friday lunchtime at restaurants in the area and always someone to try something new and exciting after work with.
