The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with EY. Arriving with no background in this field I was able to experience a broad range of activities during my internship which meant I was able to understand all aspects of the job. I also met many people and I was able to learn a lot from them in their different areas of expertise.
I always felt valued by my colleagues as they always appreciated the work I had completed for them and at the same time if there was areas I could improve on they would mention this.
I was given a lot of support by all of my team and they were more than happy to answer any questions I had, no matter how small the questions were. My buddy and counsellor were also always available if I needed support.
I was always busy after the first initial week of introductions. If there was not as much work I felt comfortable to ask my team for more or there were tasks that I was able to complete online to enhance my skills and knowledge in this job area.
I was given varying degrees of responsibility during the placement. As I became more comfortable with the software being used and the documents I was looking at I was given more and more responsibility and felt like I was beginning to have a valued impact for the team I was working with, reducing their workload during busy times.
The ability to work as a team was greatly emphasised during my Internship and this is something I can now use on a day to day basis in my course and also in the future. The training I received allowed me to have a basic understanding of accounting and the Insurance sector and it is an area I will look forward to working in in the future.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was always very friendly and everyone was very welcoming. It was very easy to meet new people and you were always able to chat to current employees of the firm at all levels to learn more about their job and their day to day job at EY.
National Travel
I am extremely excited to begin working at EY after already having an insight into this firm. I can't wait for all the opportunities that this graduate job will offer and look forward to returning next September!
The Culture
There were many opportunities as an intern to meet up with fellow interns in the same office and also at the other London office for drinks after work. This enabled you to get to know your fellow interns more outside of the work place. In addition quite often as a team we would go out for lunch, again allowing you to get to know your fellow colleagues more and making you feel more comfortable within the office environment.
Working in Canary Wharf there were plenty of bars and restaurants to go to after work to have a drink with fellow colleagues and also it is very easy in London to get on the tube and find somewhere else to get a drink or a meal within easy commuting distance.
Yes there were multiple events that allowed you to meet your fellow interns. There was also many opportunities to join societies within EY, again allowing you to meet a range of people at all different levels and from a wide range of backgrounds.
