The Role
I enjoyed my work placement thoroughly. I relished the opportunity to work with and learn from first class scientists.
I felt as if my opinion was important to my colleagues. My supervisor would always ask for my thoughts and I was treated like a real employee, not a student.
My supervisor was brilliant. He always made time to support and guide me. He understood that I was a learning and developing young scientist.
Occasionally it felt as if I did not have much to do, but this was a prime time to read leading references from top academic journals in order to use my initiative and suggest new ideas.
I felt as if I was trusted with the project I was given.
I believe the skills I developed and training I received will help me immensely throughout my degree and beyond. I believe that my time at Pfizer has given me the confidence to try new things, even though they may not work. My placement has taught me something no undergraduate lab course can.
The Company
Occasionally noisy, but I thought everybody in the department was lovely and approachable.
There was some confusion and slight disorganisation here and there, but the majority of the work placement was well organised.
My supervisor invested a large amount of time in order to aid my growth as a scientist.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
It is likely that I would need a postgraduate degree in order to work within a research and development setting within Pfizer again.
The Culture
Christmas parties, a daytrip to Dreamland in Margate. Pfizer treated us very well.
I would personally say that things are more expensive in the south.
To my knowledge, there were not many clubs and the like in the area I worked/lived in.
There were opportunities to get involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) events in order to spread enthusiasm about science to the younger generation.
