About You
Hugely enjoyed the insight day. It was really helpful to understand the nature and culture of the firm. Everyone was really friendly, especially Salome, the trainee who was sat with us during the group exercise. I think knowing what to expect as soon as we got there and having a timetable for the day helped me relax and just enjoy myself, as well as take the opportunity to make the most of each part of the day.
The open day felt like it was targeted to myself and other people in my position rather than for the firm to assess me. Throughout the day, all the things that had been planned were to help us and graduate recruitment get to know eachother and see if we are a good fit. This made me feel like a valued applicant.
Sarah Harte and Amar Ali gave the most guidance and support during the insight. They were hugely helpful in giving application tips - giving specifics on what/what not to do in the application form and the interview. They were also willing to give personal help.
The group exercise helped in preparing me for future assessment days and gave good practice for presentation skills and teamwork in particular. The rest of the day was a good opportunity for networking as well as preparing for vacation scheme and training contract applications.
The Company
The fact that the whole day wasn't just a series of talks was a good feature of the day. It was structured in a logical order; the morning being talks and Q&As gave us all the information we needed and then having a group exercise in the afternoon gave us a chance to do something practical. I think this exercise was needed as I feel many of us would not have engaged if we were still sat listening to talks after lunch.
Good general atmosphere. I feel like there was more of a competitive feel during the group exercise which put more pressure on the open day. However, I still found the exercise fun as I had a great group and the people we were presenting too were friendly and were engaged in our presentation.
The day helped hugely in understanding the culture, I feel this is one of the things I gained most out of the day. Everyone was very willing to highlight their enthusiasm for the firm and the culture that they have developed over the years.
The open day really helped me in deciding what type of sectors I would like to work in as well as the type of modern firm I am interested in. It confirmed my interests.
Everything Else
The work life balance was spoken about but i didn't get to ask what networks, sports teams, events, pro bono etc opportunities there were within the firm.
