About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight programme. It offered me the opportunity to spend some time in a department where the work was really interesting. It also offered a great opportunity to get my first piece of legal work experience.
Not very valued as I was only there for 2 days. Staff at Simmons were very keen however, to talk to me and tell me about their work. The graduate recruitment team really helped to take the pressure off and make our scheme more enjoyable.
Whenever I had a question, people were very happy to answer it.
I was able to develop a range of legal skills which will be very useful when it comes to interviews for vacation schemes and training contracts. We took part in negotiation workshops, personal branding sessions and application workshops.
The Company
Very well structured. On the first day of the scheme we spent the day learning more about the firm and what a legal career could look like. On the second day, we sat in our department with an Associate or Partner and shadowed them.
The atmosphere was generally good, it was really relaxed and informal at times. We had plenty of opportunities to speak to other interns, trainees and partners.
As I was only there for 2 days not a lot! But throughout the scheme, I was given the impression that the firm was willing to invest the time into ensuring we had a good time and got what we wanted out of it.
I spent the second day in the Tax department with an Associate who explained to me what she does at the firm. We also had the opportunity to network with trainees throughout the scheme who explained what being a trainee was like. I was able to get a good sense of what it would be like to have a full time role at the firm.
The culture at the firm was discussed in various talks and presentations throughout the scheme. We were also able to get a feel of the culture when we sat in our departments and socialised with employees.
Really valuable. It confirmed to me my interest in a career in Law, and inspired me to make TC applications for Simmons & Simmons and other firms.
Everything Else
£50 per day.
There were many opportunities to meet a range of employees. Trainees sat with us during our lunch and we also played Ping Pong with representatives of the firm on the last day of the scheme.
Really fun! Especially the socials we had on both days.
Yes. Speaking to trainees gave me insight into these. They got involved with a range of activities from pro bono to sports.
Yes! I was able to gain a good insight into a legal career at the firm.
