IT Intern Review

I enjoyed it to a great extent! Great colleagues, very positive working culture! Interns are given quite some responsibility and are part of the team, not only there for making coffee or copies of documents. It was always fun to work here. We did not only had fun at work but also during spare time which made it easy to connect and get to know each other on a more personal level.

I felt valued to a high extent! As responsibility was given to students, it was easier to show what you are capabale of. My skills were utilised when needed. Still, my colleagues were happy to help me with any questions or issues. I really felt as part of the team.

Very positive! Supervisors, mentors and management gave me a great deal of input in the beginning and were still very helpful after a few months! However, they missed explaining some things that should have been explained to understand some of the rules. Anyway, very good experience and I learned a lot.

I would say average. It changed on a daily basis depending on the progress of the different projects. Also I had to wait for colleagues within the team or the company for input on some topics which was taking quite some time in which I could not do anything else. However, overtime could be written down and used at less busy times.

Depending on the project I was given lots of responisibility, obviously with a supervisor though checking on the project status. Still, reporting was also happening to higher level than my direct management. This way a very good chance for networking was given and even greater responsibility was given to me.

The internship was not directly connected to my degree studies (which were also already finished when I started the internship). However, the placement gave me the opportunity to gain experience in a little bit of a different field compared to my studies. I believe that this can lead to a bit of a different thinking when you go back to your own field, seeing the bigger picture.

We had a very positive atmosphere in the office. More than 50 people managed to actually function as a team. This made it a very relaxed, though focused atmosphere where you could talk and address questions to anybody. Everybody was helpful and supportive. Still, it was a very focued and productive department.

The internship was only set up by the department itself; there was almost no involvement by the Human Resource department. Therefore, there was almost no planning within the department for the placement; however, this was also due to the reason that it was a new position which had not existed before. A bit more planning on tasks and responsibilites could have been nice.

Training and development only existed on the job or by learning from colleagues. Unfortunately no additional trainings were offered which lead to a very company focused experience and knowledge acquiration. In order to improve, position specific trainings could have been quite useful. Especially as the placement was in such a specific part of the organisation.

Well, I got a job there. Different location and different department, but still :)

Some of the students organised regular pub nights and other events from time to time. However, the mix up between the different departments was still quite difficult as a daily basis of meetings was missing. Still, a good attempt and improvements have been started already by having representatives in each of the areas within the company.

Living in this city was very expensive, in terms of housing as well as social activities. However, the company adapted to that and has a quite high salary for placements compared to other industries or countries. This way it was possible to enjoy living and even travel the country from time to time. The salary was good enough for that.

For a university city I expected some more variety of opportunities; however, this was not given. Still quite some fun with the right people ;-)

Due to the fact of the city having 2 universities it was easy to connect with other people your age and get invloved in activities outside of work.
