The Role
This was my third internship and my first international experience. I was worried about working in a multi-cultural environment but I was surprised by how the company culture created a unified working environment. Overall I was very happy as I was given assignments that allowed me to strengthen skills that I learned through course work.
My colleagues were very open and took the time to answer questions that I had. As this was my first time in China, they helped me get acquainted with our office neighborhood and different Chinese foods during our lunch breaks.
We had an open door policy, so there was always someone available to answer questions.
I was given a couple of different assignments. I was on a team that was launching a marketing campaign, so I would meet with our team daily and contribute what was needed in terms of ideas and content. I also had daily small tasks that involved social media uploads, content writing, and a bit of research.
I was treated like an equal and was responsible for my tasks and assignments.
After completing this internship position, it helped me realize that I needed to develop additional skills. I am now working on the other aspect of marketing which is visual, so I am working on my graphic design skills. This position also gave me the realization that I want to go international after graduation.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.
Things could have been a bit more organized but it wasn't bad.
My colleagues took the time to teach me about marketing strategy in China, which is very different from marketing strategy back home, so they definitely took the time to teach me after which I implemented what I learned.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
As the company is growing, I will definitely apply for a full-time job after i am finished with my studies.
The Culture
I came in with a program (MCO), MCO planned a lot so we were always busy. I also went to KTV and social events with my colleagues that were younger.
My housing was covered by my program so I didn't worry about that. Using the subway was super cheap at .75 cents per journey, I could get dumplings for lunch for $2. Depending on where you go out on the weekends, you spend about $10-25.
There are a ton of nightlife options. Clubs, dive bars, and lounges.
I was rarely home as there was a lot to do and so many people to meet.
