The Role
The work culture here is amazing! Coming to work was actually enjoyable, as my team is great and I am surrounded by friendly people. I liked how I was given responsibility to handle my own projects and how every day was different. The workspace is great as its really open – you don’t feel like you are trapped in a stuffy office with no daylight.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. Everyone always supported me throughout. There was a lot of trust within the team. If there were any difficulties – I would be supported and never once was I felt useless. I equally contributed to the team and whatever work I produced, it was always appreciated.
My team and my supervisors always took out time to support me when I needed it! I usually have a bi-weekly review with my manager to see how I am getting on and I get the chance to express where my weaknesses are. I then am told where I can get additional support from and who would be best to ask for assistance in the areas I was weak in.
I was relatively busy on a day to day basis! I had enough work to keep me on my feet the entire day. However, I was never overloaded with the workload and if I did struggle with the amount of work I had, then I easily distributed it with my team and was always given assistance when I needed it.
One of the best things about working in this company is the amount of responsibility I got! They know I will make mistakes and it might cost them, yet they let me experience what it was like to actually be a Project Manager. I felt very valuable to the team and appreciated the fact that I was given this responsibility.
I have learnt more life skills than I have at University. I know how it is like to work in such a big company and how to communicate with people. My written and communicational skills have developed significantly which will definitely assist me in my degree/further studies. My technical skills have improved due to the range of software’s I had the opportunity to use.
The Company
I was very lucky with my placement as I got to visit many offices and many different companies to meet our customers. I realised how lucky I was to be working at VMware. The working environment is exceptional! By far better than any company I’ve ever worked for or visited. There’s extra room if you ever need to work alone. People are always lively and there are really nice meeting areas if you ever need them. A happy and positive place to work! Full of enthusiasm.
My internship was set up perfectly. First two month I was being trained by the previous interns. Then I was ready to pick up my own work. Everything had been planned by my workplace supervisor! As the workload is unpredictable. Even on the quiet times there was always something planned for me to do.
The company has invested a lot in all the interns. We had the chance to go through START training which takes 5 days. I was always allowed to enrol in further training if I needed it by signing up online. We even got to gather some qualifications whilst doing the training.

I am planning on coming back and doing the graduate scheme. As working here again is very appealing and there is a lot of room for progression. Also, everyone will encourage you to progress and develop your skills further. After the graduate scheme, I would hope to work there full time.
The Culture
There are around 20-30 interns in this workplace which is amazing! We also get an interns day out ever quarter. So, we got to go bowling and then out to eat etc. All the interns are well connected and we even get to do 1 or 2 projects a year where all the interns are involved. This meant meeting up weekly and being able to socialise whilst working.
Staines is relatively okay priced. There is not much to do in the area in terms of socialising however, for all the interns birthdays we did go down to the pub for drinks or have a meal out. Which was a good opportunity to converse and to get to know everyone a lot better.
As per the previous comment. There wasn't much to do so there wasn't much of a nightlife however there are a lot of places everyone can go to for a meal.
There were many activities which were always promoted such as golf days which were outside of work. Charity events and activities. Christmas market stalls.
