The Role
I very much enjoyed it.
I felt extremely valued.
A great deal of support through the training weeks in Hayes - at least once per week when we were on the job - and help/support was always there if we needed it. We just had to pick up the phone or send an email.
Worked to an autonomous schedule set by myself - set myself daily targets to meet on increasing the number of sales and convenience stores I could visit.
We were given a great deal of responsibility as we were field sales reps, so we had to work to our own schedules, meet our own targets etc. We were responsible for how well we succeeded.
Skills such as presenting, negotiating, talking with a variety of people and the confidence learnt on the job will assist me through the remaining few months of my degree and beyond.
The Company
When in the training offices the atmosphere was extremely pleasant. I felt any member of staff was approachable. The majority of the internship however, was spent alone visiting stores and talking to store owners.
The internship was very organised. It was clear from the start what was to be expected of us - targets, stores visited, how to upload personal work diaries to the tablet app, how to work Concur. We had a training week in the Hayes head offices at the very beginning of the internship, it was extremely important to meet with a variety of people and speak about different experiences we may encounter when working out in the field. The middle week within the 12 weeks were back in the Hayes offices - again, very well set up. It was clear to us on a daily basis what was to be expected from us. I do, however, feel we could have had a full day or two out in our assigned fields with a current sales rep working in that area, to oversee their work and take notes to then know for ourselves how to respond in certain situations.
I feel the company invested a great deal within me. They invested a great deal of trust, time, and effort to name 3. I still feel highly invested in by pladis through the contacts I made throughout my internship.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Car
Company Parties/Events
Extremely appealing - especially the flexibility within the organisation and the career progression.
The Culture
A great social scene. All of the interns got on very well alongside other colleagues. The time and dinners spent together enabled us all to bond well.
N/A. Company expenses.
We were based in Hayes for 3 weeks of the internship, at the M4 J4 Holiday Inn, which had nice places to visit for dinner with the other interns.
Many opportunities - Hounslow Urban Farm community volunteering, dinners, visiting the Harlesden and High Wycombe factories.
