About You
I couldn't have enjoyed the placement more. The desk I was on in markets (Credit Leverage - high yield and distress bonds and loans) was incredibly involving and were excellent at explaining their industry to me. I was involved from the very beginning of the day attending the briefings and was able to do a pitch by the end of the week. I learnt so much from them. HR also put on a wide range of networking events and talks which were amazingly insightful and gave an excellent overview of the company.
I felt that there was a lot of emphasis on us as individuals - the HR team had made the effort to remember our names - a small point but meant a lot. My team on the desk were excellent at giving personal feedback - everyone had time for us.
We were given three points of contact at a minimum in our business area which really enabled us to get full exposure - as even if one person was swamped there was always someone else to talk to.
For me personally, as an arts student, the insight I gained into banking is unlikely to impact my degree subject. However, this is the industry and now know I want to be in and so from that perspective, it has been invaluable.
The Company
The insight was extremely well structured with intro talks on the first day to exceptional amounts of work shadowing. We had socials with a range of people from the bank - both senior and junior.
The atmosphere was full of energy and very dynamic. I think I can say we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. It was very positive and upbeat!
I feel that Citi invested a lot of time and resources into us. By assigning us a specific desk I feel that now I have a really good understanding of the day to day life of a trader/salesperson and also a great grasp of the product.
The amount of time dedicated to work shadowing really helped with understanding what it was like to work for the company full-time. Particularly true for me as I was on my desk from 7am to 6pm (amongst talks/breaks) practically everyday.
The culture came across very well.
The week was invaluable. I now know that this is what I want to do.
Everything Else
Everyday we met new people - ranging from very senior people to the most junior.
We had a series of informal events and there two more formal. One was in the office with senior people and the other off-site at a bar/restaurant with the junior members of Citi - both very enjoyable and led to one-on-one coffees later in the week.
A reasonable amount - not the foucus though.
Absolutely.
