    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the experience. The staff were very friendly and the opportunities we were given to interact with senior employees was fascinating. I learnt alot about Barclays as a company and about all the different functions within group functions. Some of the senior speakers we had too were incredible and interesting; most importantly they were willing to help. Would definitely recommend.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The HR team who organised the event were helpful and friendly. We were always given good answer to our questions which aided our learning. The managers at the networking events put on were very helpful and friendly and were willing to give up their time to help us in this early stage in our career. Was a very good experience.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During the insight week we were given alot of support, particularly regarding our choice of function from senior speakers and graduates who helped explain each function and gave us career advice too. However, the networking events I felt were the best place to receive guidance and information, some of the speakers we had were better than others. However, at the networking event, all staff members were willing to help and explain queries.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt limited soft skills during this week. However, what i did learn was the structure of barclays, banks and how the financial services industry works as a whole. It was extremely valuable information which I would not have been given in so much detail.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was well structured. The way we were taught was in the form of a senior speaker and then graduates coming in and explaining in a more interactive way. it was a good structure. We also had networking events in between each area. More break in between events would have been good though as it was hard to focus for hours at a time. However, I understand as alot of content was covered in a short space of time.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was great amongst the interns. We all got on well and treated each other with respect. I particularly enjoyed the networking events atmosphere as it was so relaxed which gave me confidence to approach people who were very senior and ask for their help. It was a fantastic experience.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested alot of time, money and staff into this spring week which I am very grateful for. We had some soft skills training but we mainly had talks on the role of each function within the company and the ways we could be successful within each role. It was a fantastic experience in terms of training and generally giving us knowledge about the company.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I would definitely consider it if im lucky enough to get a summer internship.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Alot. Their values were drilled into us and we saw how relaxed the company is. They were all friendly.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very valuable. I learnt about the structure of barclays and where I may want to work in the future. However, each function was covered in only some detail and we only work shadowed in two of them so it was hard to make a decision on which function to chose. The staff I met during networking were the ones who really helped me decide where I wanted to go.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Travel was reimbursed and they have said we are paid 250 pounds.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were loads of them all throughout the week.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were excellent. They were relaxed and gave me confidence to approach senior members of staff to ask for anything from careers help, to what they do and their career paths, alongside interview advice. The drinks and food provided werent bad but the food at the Monday session did get cold! Overall, it was a great chance to network.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes. We had an expo at the beginning of the week which was useful at seeing the networks within the company and some of the programmes they have for volunteering. We heard how the company also give people time off if they have other commitments such as army training or charity work and they give you flexible working hours.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
