About You
I really enjoyed the insight spring programme at Barclays as there was a lot of inside information to what the organisation is about. As interns, we interacted with people from within the organisation from different hierarchies, group functions which gave us an all-rounded and informative decision when choosing what to interview for the summer internship. The HR team really organised the program well and I am really grateful to have been a part of the 2017 Spring Week Program.
I felt extremely valued as not only did we get to meet senior members of the organisation but we got meaningful advice and tips on how to jumpstart our careers in the world of finance. Every part of the spring week, I believe, reinforced Barclays commitment to investing in its human capital and really made me feel like a valuable asset of the organisation.
There was a very strong support system that guided us every step of the way ensuring that the assimilation was seamless. All the way from the confirmation of the interview to the signing of the contract - Barclays really took its time to make us comfortable. I would definitely recommend the organisation to anyone looking for a meaningful Spring Week Program.
I learnt a lot more about industry and inasmuch as I am doing a "relatable" degree - this insight week really showed me what industry is currently facing and how it has set different policies in place to be able to mitigate the challenges. It has taught me to keep an open mind that goes beyond reading Bloomberg and FT articles and take a technical approach with things to really differentiate me from everyone else. One of the directors talked about curiosity being the main differentiator in the work place and I definitely will look into that!
The Company
The insight was well organised and structured with the flow of which function came to speak to us being very well detailed. The work shadowing sessions were also very insightful and gave us more insight to the actual technical tasks of an analyst, confirming whether or not we would want to develop a career in the particular area. We were given an agenda beforehand that made it easier for us to prepare questions beforehand, making the experience even more worthwhile.
The atmosphere was generally friendly with those even high up the organisation willing to come and give us talks, leave their email addresses with us and genuinely take an interest into what we want to do. HR accomodated us immensely and made sure that we were all catered for - enabling a caring environment.
There wa sa heavy investment in our financial education making sure that we thoroughly understood every area of the business. The bank really made sure that we got a well rounded summary of each group function - showing us how much they value us. The shadowing was particularly insightful as we got to see the kind of tasks that we would be expected to conduct on the job.
It was very insightful! The shadowing sections was particularly insightful for this as it shows us what we would do within the organisation. It also showed us the heavy conversion rate from Spring to Summer and then the graduate program. However, there were many analysts from the graduate program.
The insight week showed us that Barclays really values its human capital. The culture is that of excellence and sharing in which we got to learn more. Everyone was gentle in our process and took time to dissect every part of the business. It was really really good. I definitely recommend Barclays Spring Program.
It was very relevant. The group project helped us apply the knowledge that we had learnt throughout the week and allow us to apply it to contemporary issues. It enabled us to hit the ground running in terms of financial analysis and how it affects the business and wider economy.
Everything Else
Yes, we got to meet the MDs, directors, graduates. Every one was exposed to us to show us the different personalities that the business has accomodated and invested in. It showed that the company upholds diversity.
