First Year Undergraduate Insights into Fund Management Day Review

I really enjoyed the Insight day as it provided a great insight into both Asset and Fund Management, whilst also displaying the opportunities available within the firm such as the Internship programme. In addition to this, networking with the professionals within the firm was also a great way to learn more about what M&G Investments does.

I felt very valued during my time at the firm because I, alongside the other participants of the day, were given the opportunity to participate in numerous trading exercises which were analysed and reviewed by senior members of the firm. The winning team were presented with prizes at the end of the day.

I received a large amount of guidance, which was evident through members of staff on hand to answer any questions regarding the programme and difficulty in the trading exercises. Also, the staff were extremely helpful during the networking exercises as it was clear that they answered a lot of questions during that period.

The Insight Day certainly instilled me with more information on Fund Management and the necessary stages taken when investing, alongside reinforcing that thoughts of the customer are at the forefront of every trade and investment. This will assist me perhaps in my future career, in whatever field that may be.

The Insight day was extremely well structured; precisely sticking to the allocated times displayed in the itinerary which allowed for all planned activities to take place. This ensured that they could provide a full look into the business. Also, the breaks were well planned which was beneficial as toilet breaks during the activities was not a problem that I encountered.

The general atmosphere was a good one, filled with people that were genuinely interested and desired to learn more about the firm and the opportunities available within the firm, which was evident during the question and answer session. It was also clear when networking with the people that attended the event.

In terms of personal training, the firm invested a decent amount through the trading exercise as this was carefully designed with information regarding firms in different industries. Also, in regards to development, the firm put a session on regarding employability skills which included some points about the different types of intelligence that could prove to be fundamental to my development.

This insight helped me significantly in understanding what it would be like to have a full-time role within the firm. One employee pointed out the ability to expand on your skillset whilst at the firm and the ease of approaching senior members of staff for help and support as they are situated in close proximity.

The firm did a great job in providing an insight into Asset Management and certainly interested me a lot more in the field than I was before I completed the day. However, I wouldn’t say it was too instrumental in helping me decide my future career path as this would require a longer period at the firm and the opportunity to work in different departments etc.

The firm was described as a very ‘people person’ firm by numerous employees during the networking session, whilst also being deemed a great place to work. A few activities that employees can get involved with that I heard included regular football matches between members of the firm and work social gatherings such as pub quizzes.

I would recommend this insight to a friend because it does a great job in providing an insight into Asset Management whilst also heavily informing one on the roles available within the firm. Also, it is a great experience to network with professionals in the industry and like-minded individuals attending the event.
