About You
It was my first insight at a financial company and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it to everyone interested in the financial sector. You will understand how the sector works (particularly the asset management business) and you will gain some real and valuable knowledge for future interviews.
Everyone was polite regardless of my bad english (I am an international studen). There were refreshments and lunch and I left the place with an excellent overall impression. People from the company were interacting with us and were happy to answer any questions as well as initiate discussions. Well done, M&G!
It was just a day in the company so we did not received 1-to-1 guidance and performance review, but everyone was nice and ready to help. In terms of application for internships/grad schemes they definitely walked us through the process and explained everything with detail. There was a panel discussion with current interns and graduates, as well.
The insight day gave me a broad understanding of the asset management world and the current market conditions. Personally I think that they gave us comprehensible but complicated information without too much details. It was certainly invaluable experience and I built some in-depth knowledge of the sector which will help me with interviews and assessment center sessions.
The Company
It was extremely well structured insight day with a trade simulation sessions and keynotes in between. We had opportunities for networking and a nice lunch on the terrace. The trade game was developed by professional finance trainers and we had to evaluate investment strategies and build a portfolio while analysing news articles and market conditions.
It felt really posh and I personally felt good. There were people from the most reputable universities (Oxbridge, LSE,etc). The event was held in the London's office located in the City of London. It was my first insight day at a finance company so I was a little bit surprised that everyone was wearing a suit, but I also wore a jacket and chinos so it was not that bad :)
I had some knowledge prior to the insight day, but I learned a lot about asset management and the financial sector in general. The basics of the business were covered and they explained the different roles and opportunities. I am really interested in investment banking, but the asset management is an interesting market segment as well (maybe slightly more relaxed in terms of hours).
Everything Else
It was just an insight day and expenses are not tipically paid.
Yes, we had opportunities to interact with current employees across many levels during the lunch, in between sessions, during the panel discussion and the final networking session after the end of the event. There were people from the highest levels as well, so definitely worth it.
We had a nice lunch on a sunny terrace in the City of London. The food was alright and many people were approaching us to initiate conversation. Sometimes network events can get a bit awkward for shy people so basically current employees were approaching us and saved us the awkward situations.
Yes, the guest speakers shared some info about their personal hobbies.
