About You
The insight was extremely enjoyable, we were given numerous opportunities to ask questions and speak with people who actually worked in the company, so we were able to get very good insight on what working for the company entails and what is its organisational culture. We were provided we all the information we could have wished for and were cared for as much as possible.
The focus was always on us students, the speakers always made sure we understood what they were saying and answered all questions that were asked, even when they were asked during a speech. Moreover, the fact that the company came up with a trading exercise really proves that it cares that we understand what the job is about and wants us to have fun and feel comfortable along the way.
During the trading simulation, there was always someone from the company who come over when we raised our hand and clear us of any doubt we could possibile have. Moreover, career opportunities were clearly presented and we were given quite a few tips on what the company looks for when reviewing applications.
Well, as it was only an insight day, I cannot certainly say that I developed skills that will assist my degree studies, although I was certainly provided with a slightly deeper insight on how investment opportunities are assessed and funds are managed. However, the information I received on internship programmes and graduate schemes will certainly be favourably taken into account when deciding where to apply.
The Company
The insight was extremely well structured. We were provided a timetable weeks before the event itself and it was respected perfectly. There was not a single problem in the passage from one activity to the next. Moreover, the way the insight was structured allowed just the right time for networking, speeches and trading exercises without getting boring or redundant.
I reckon that the general atmosphere was really good during the whole insight. Employees from the company were extremely kind and very welcoming, and they genuinely seemed to be enjoying themselves. Students always looked interested in whichever activity was going on at the moment and eager to get to know their peers.
Well, I would say that the company did invest in our personal training, as it gave us the opportunity to do some trading exercises and, as a consequence, understand how asset management works and what can be some useful strategies to keep in minds. Moreover, it gave us some important tips on what parts of our personalities we should really pay attention to.
Speaking with employees and with young graduates who took part in an internship and/or are taking part in a graduate scheme was really a great source of information and helped understand what actually working for the company would be like, what is expected of employees and what are the key abilities that they should possess or try to develop.
This insight was a great way to understand what the company culture is. In particular, the networking opportunity with employees was a great way to understand why people want to work for the company and what drives their everyday activities. Moreover, the discussion panel with recent graduates gave a deeper insight on how that culture is passed on to newly-hired people.
It was very valuable in the sense that it made me realise that I do not need to have everything decided beforehand, but that it is enough to know a general field that I would like to work in and then go from there and try to get an experience as diversified as possible before actually deciding on a specific job, so as to actually choose the one I'm best fit for.
Everything Else
Yes, there were two main opprotunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company. The first one was over lunch, during which we were split into two groups, each talking to a different group of employees (we then swapped groups after a bit). In addition, as the final activity of the day, we were given the opportunity to ask questions to recent graduates who decided to pursue a career in the company through a discussion panel.
The networking opportunities were great, I personally think. This is because not only did the employees and the graduates answer all questions that were asked them, but they also did as much with enthusiasm. You could really tell that they wanted to be there and help you get rid of all your doubts and make sure that you learnt everything you might possibly want to know.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend, as it is really effective and fun to be a part of. It really gives you all the information you can possibily need about the company so as to understand if it would be the bey fit for you and your skills. However, I would recommend anyone wishing to apply to do so as soon as possible.
