The Role
Very enjoyable work placement aimed at the correct level for my ability.
Worked as a valued member of the team doing useful work.
Supervisors were very helpful and always willing to answer questions when I was unsure.
I always had plenty to do but I was able to feedback progress to managers so I was never bored or too rushed.
I was given responsibility for two projects during my placement but plenty of guidance was always available from my supervisors upon request.
I developed a lot of lab skills which were very useful when I returned to university.
The Company
Office environment was very friendly and relaxed. Ate lunch as a team during which we talked about things other than work.
Placement was very well organised and included many events organised for interns as a whole group such as tours of the manufacturing facilities.
I received a lot of lab training developing skills which should prove useful in my future career.

Had opportunity to take up job on the graduate training scheme but have decided to do a PhD instead. Have been made aware of Rolls-Royce funding opportunities for PhDs.
The Culture
All summer interns were offered accommodation in Derby University halls of residence. This led to a good social scene and it felt like being at uni.
Cost of living in Derby was cheap compared to uni in Cambridge.
Nightlife was good for me though some people used to uni in big cities may have wished for more.
Rolls-Royce intern football competition. Basketball competition. Gym.
