About You
Coming from a non finance/economics degree background, I didn't know much about finance and banking and was able to find out more about the sector which was interesting. During our work shadowing part we were able to find out more about the different roles people had within our chosen division (operations).
Many of the talks arranged included people with important roles in the company, who had taken time out to talk to us. Our transport and accommodation was covered, so this shows that they wanted us to be there and made it as convenient as possible. We also had an opportunity to get to know others doing the insight better as they arranged a social in a bar.
Most of us had the opportunity to meet other people working within the division we applied for who could answer our questions. We were always encouraged to ask questions to find out more and they were very willing to answer and provide more information about the company and their jobs.
The skills are not necessarily relevant to my degree, but the experience of networking and being in a professional environment are not doubt invaluable for any future career.
The Company
The day's progressed seamlessly and it was clearly well planned. We were given lots of information and opportunity to find out more. What I would have liked to see built more into the structure was more activities, but perhaps this was due to shortage of time that we didn't have more in the first place.
The people who worked at UBS were very friendly and supportive and made us feel welcomed.
They gave us talks about how to prepare for assessments and professional skills, as well us makin us aware of how to get an internship and get on a graduate programme with the company.
Whilst the roles are very diverse and complex, the insight made me more aware of the numerous roles available. We meet many graduates who were happy to talk about their working days, but also more senior staff who talked about how they Gr where they are now.
UBS had a big focus on the company's culture, which they were keen to get across, particularly about the company's integrity. It really sold the company as a places employees wanted to work for and supported it workers.
It definitely made me consider working in banking or the financial sector more seriously, having being made aware of the potential different jobs.
Everything Else
Transport and accommodation was paid for. Breakfast and lunch was also provided.
We met graduates and also shadowed some graduated. More senior staff also delivered some talks.
We had a social event at a bar on the first day. We could talk to other people doing the insight during breakfast and lunch.
There's a gym widely used by staff in the building. Most do not complain about their work/life balance and seem satisfied.
Definitely! I learned so much more about the financial sector and UBS and future options after university. It is very well worth doing.
