About You
I throughly enjoyed the insight week. It provided a suburb overview of UBS as a firm. It is clear that as market leaders, UBS know what they are doing and this was very evident from each day. They gave us a wide experience of each area of the firm, providing clarification to both those who want to work in finance but also those who have discovered they don't.
Of course as an insight week program member you have minimal to give to the firm and this is recognised. However we were met by many MDs and highly important individuals who took time from their days to teach us about there own roles as we'll as the entire operation of UBS.
The guidance received was very good. Unfortunately due to the nature of Sales and Trading, those in ICS were not able to watch the traders at work. For each of the other groups however, each student was given guidance on their area of work by highly qualified individuals. All in all, great guidance was provided.
The skills developed on the spring week will link directly to my studies. The primary skills and competencies such as presenting and integrity will be carried by me through each firm or area I am fortunate enough to work at. We were treated with respect and returned respect as a result.
The Company
Great structure. The timetable was clearly meticulously planned by those in charge and this was reflected by the smooth running of each event. Unfortunately for those in Corporate Centre they were not offered an assessment day at the end of the week. However for everyone else, an assessment centre took place on the last day.
The atmosphere was very positive throughout from both the recruitment team and the students taking part. Each of us was treated with great respect despite our inexperience and relative youth. The atmosphere was one of the best parts. There was no real air of competitiveness unlike in other firm's spring weeks. UBS will always have a place for bright minds and this was clearly reflected throughout.
Everything Else
There were many networking events, potentially too many. We met grads and more senior people on a daily basis. It is clear that while we are trying to impress them and the recruiters, they too are attempting to positively contribute to the firm by treating future grads with respect which was nice to see.
Yes. It was one issue I was worried about however the facilities on campus are superb. There is a gym present as well as other opportunities such as sports teams and charitable activities, it is clear that one can do other things outside of the office. Members of teams are encouraged to form positive relationships in order to smooth out the working environment
I would definitely recommend the insight to a friend. It is a superb event to clear up whether or not banking and finance are for you. It must be presented clearly however that the spring week much like many other spring weeks are incredibly difficult to gain a place on. Of the other spring week participants i have met, it is clear that UBS' is one of if not the best spring week.
