About You
The insight was very enjoyable and pleasant. First of all, I learnt lots of things of the company that otherwise I would have never found online and which would have never been available to me in careers events in University because UBS doesn't host these at Strathclyde University. Also, I thought it was really useful to learn some skills, acquire competencies and learn from experts in the field of investment banking, who really transmitted their passion for their job and, in my case, succeeded to transmit it to me.
I felt valued because all the employees showed interest towards all of the applicants, especially concerning the resolution of any of our doubts and they helped us during activities. Also GTPs gave very good advice and the human resource people answered to all of our queries concerning the assessment day, which I think is crucial for the preparation of it.
Guidance was plentiful and really helpful to acquire new skills. Moreover activities were well explained and the programme is really complete and straight forward. However, there was some uncertainty about certain things: some of us did not receive the e-mail of the person we were meant to work-shadow at all or not until 2 days before it. It is okay, but some of us were worried that something went wrong at the beginning.
In my case it is absolutely useful, since I am doing International Business and one of my major subjects is Finance, so learning about financing, asset management and investment banking is going to be crucial for my development. Especially considering that I would like to pursue honours in finance.
The Company
It was really well structured. However, I would have improved some things. There is a lot of networking and I feel I would have enjoyed it more if I had one more work-shadowing session in order to fully absorb how it is to work in UBS and the kind of activities done int he role we are interested in. For me the work-shadowing was the real revelation of what the job is about and made me feel more excited about it.
It was really good. HR staff was really warm and in general, employees in UBS were really enthusiastic, really explicit during their speeches, and themes important thing, they were really engaging and succeeded in capture all of our attention. I think that this is the most positive aspect of the Insight Programme.
This was not too much. We did learn what the culture was about and we did learn some technical stuff but we didn't get training or actually applied what learn in real life. The most useful thing was work shadowing, because from this we could see the activities involved, and despite the fact that we didn't do anything, I think that observing the employee was really useful to understand what the job is about and how to come across it. The insight did tell us the type of skills that we needed to succeed in the assessment center, but I don't think they helped us to develop them (except the communication one)
I think it is really useful, because if I was to be successful after the assessment center, I already know what the culture is about and how employees are like at UBS. Moreover, the work shadowing of some of the graduates also shows how work is performed. I guess activities done by a summer intern will be similar to these, and thus, we already have a mild idea of how to go around these kind of tasks.
Tremendously. I really didn't think that culture would be so integral and that it meant so much to each of the employees. The overall idea that I had from the firm is that everyone has the heritage of UBS really embedded and everyone seems to be loyal to the values of the bank. Everyone looks so engaged, very keen to challenge the status quo and always give the better of themselves to put clients interests' first, only for one reason, because they love what they do.
It was really useful. Especially because in University, at least, in my University, I feel my course is really theoretical and we never learn realistic applications of how to apply the knowledge acquired. Thank you to the work shadowing I really now what is really done in finances and also what use is given to various financial instruments.
Everything Else
I am still waiting for the reimbursement of my transportation costs
Very often we could network.
Very useful, learnt loads, had freedom to ask many questions and learnt loads of stuff about the role we applied to.
Not much.
Definitely
