About You
The insight at UBS was very enjoyable. The program was well structured and varied. Sufficient amounts of breaks in between sessions allowed to connect with other people and be energised for the next session. The networking events were a great opportunity to meet with graduates who already had some experience working for UBS.
UBS took care of every matter for me, from travel to accommodation to organising everything around the Spring Week. That was very assuring. Furthermore, we had several supervisors who paid attention that we did not get lost during the entire insights process. It was a very delightful experience. The networking events and the several senior people from UBS that talked to us reinforced the feeling of being valued as a potential future employee at the company.
The guidance during the Insight Week was fantastic. Whenever we had questions we were encouraged to ask them, even in case it was about something basic about banking that we did not understand. Especially the networking events with graduates gave significant guidance, as they could relate to our situation and provide good advice.
The skills I develop, mainly networking skills and communication skills, and a basic understanding of an Investment Bank and its different branches, will most likely not have an impact on the degree I am studying. However, it would help me enormously with my career choice in the future, in regards to Investment Banking.
The Company
The insight was very well structured. The Program was very rigorous, but nonetheless left room for networking and getting to know ones’ peers. The first few days served as an introduction into the whole concept of an Investment Bank, and the following days allowed to deepen the knowledge about our chosen sectors.
The general atmosphere was very enthusiastic and interested and not at all stressful. Despite being rigorously structured, we still had time to go on breaks and have a laugh with the other Spring Insight interns. Furthermore, the senior people from UBS were all very enthusiastic and uplifting people, making the Insight Week a success.
The company went long ways in insuring that I was receiving all the necessary information I needed to in order to be able to make an impact as a summer intern the next years. The first two days provided the basic knowledge about investment banking, while the following months ensured that I learned more about specific business areas.
Especially the networking events and the meetings with the senior people in UBS allowed me to have an insight into how it would be to have a full time role at the company. However unfortunately, I was not able to see a whole day in the role that I would have liked to see, therefore the insight was a little limited to just descriptions.
There was a lot of presentations about the company culture at the UBS Insight Week. We got to learn the major principles according to which the company works. However we did not just hear them from the HR Department, but also experienced them from all other divisions we had an insight into. This allowed us to manifest a better image of the culture.
The content of the day was very valuable in helping me decide. The insight into Investment Banking in general helped me gain a basic understanding of what is going on in UBS. The further insight into specific business areas helped me to identify which department I would like to pursue in the future.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed for me travel and my expenses of staying in London for the five days. UBS took care of everything for me way in advance, so that I did not have to worry at all about my accommodation and travel before the Spring Week. The contact person at UBS was very nice. However we did not get paid, like some other Spring Interns did.
There were lots of networking opportunities available to us. In the first two days we were confronted with a panel of more senior people whom we could ask questions about their departments and their experiences. Later on we had the opportunities to have one on ones with gradates after training.
The social events were very well organized and very relaxed and fun. There was always plenty of drinks and snacks available, and it was always at nice locations. It allowed to connect with the other interns. The networking events were also great, as the fresh graduates offered amazing insights into their jobs.
There were a couple of activities we found about were employees can get involved in. Firstly, UBS is one of the banks with the most volunteer hours, so there is that opportunity. Further, there is a company gym, which is especially interesting for ECC department, and is very modern and well equipped.
There is a lot to be learned from the Insight week. First it gives a basic understanding for the structure of Investment banks. Secondly, you meet a lot of interesting and nice people and get to network with them, which is very helpful for a future career in Investment Banking.
