The Role
At the beginning my role was very excel intensive so after a while I found it a little boring. However after seeking out additional work I became heavily involved in an interesting product, including its launch among other elements. This made my role extremely enjoyable and I love the work I am now doing.
Something that i believe sets Intel apart from similar companies is that there is a strong intern community. This community is valued by full time colleagues and you really feel like there is no difference between you and full time staff. The work you do is valuable to the company and colleagues know that, therefore you are treated with respect and become heavily engaged within a multitude of teams and groups.
I was in a strange situation where my team was dissolved within weeks of starting the placement. However despite this, i still received excellent ongoing support from a variety of people including my supervisor. I think for most other interns they have been in close knit teams from the get-go and so therefore have had great guidance from management and teams around them.
At the start i was extremely busy, learning everything that was required for my role. After this time, once i had learned the core duties I found myself often looking for things to do. However as i started to find more exciting projects I became much more busy again which was great. At intel you have the flexibility to be as busy as you want to be, and as long as your core role isn't negatively impacted, managers will be happy to support you in branching out your experience.
My core role was not relatively that responsibility heavy in terms of the impact i perceived the work to have on the business. However once i expanded my remit outside of my core tasks, becoming more involved in products the responsibility shot up. I now present in staff calls and attend events among a whole range of other things.
My competency with using systems like excel has gone through the roof, which will be very useful throughout the remainder of my career I'm sure. Things like email etiquette and the strategies and culture involved in working in a large MNC are more qualitative elements of my skill set that i also believe have improved massively. Furthermore, I now have a deep understanding of what hiring managers look for in candidates which is invaluable.
The Company
The office atmosphere at Intel is extremely good to say the least. Having 50+ other interns in the office really helps, and i believe the intern community at Intel to be second to none. However the general atmosphere regardless of this, is laid back but hardworking in equal measure. There are often fun things that make working here a pleasure, for example finding an Easter egg at your desk when you walk in to work because it's Easter.
Intel have a long and solid history with their intern program. This means that everyone is aware of what needs to happen and when this needs to happen by. Because of this, staff are very accommodating of new interns which results in things moving seamlessly and smoothly from start to finish.
My manager could not do enough for me in terms of supporting me throughout my Intel journey. He was quick to offer advice and support when needed but also assisted in organizing worthwhile business trips to various places that supported the work i was doing on a day to day basis.

The only thing stopping me from returning to Intel is the location as it is far away from where I live when I'm not at uni. The office is great and the company is an exciting enterprise to work for. All staff are friendly and intelligent and as an intern you are truly valued just as any member of staff at Intel is. It is a fantastic company to represent.
