The Role
I was surrounded by friendly people, was provided with many opportunities and my work was important to the company and interesting to me.
I was dealing with people with much more experience than me but felt like a member of the team throughout. My opinions were valued and most of my colleagues thought I was there permanently instead of an undergraduate there on a summer placement.
I felt that I could go to my manager with any problems that I was having, and I was always supported in any decisions that I made. When I needed guidance it was given but I was not mollycoddled.
Towards the end of my placement once I had settled in and learnt my way around, the work increased so that I was always busy but not under too much pressure.
I found that I was running my own meetings with members of several different teams and producing documents that were being sent to higher managers to be used to make important decisions.
The skills I gained from this will be invaluable in applying for jobs. I was responsible for time management, management of my colleagues, producing professional work to a deadline and general workplace skills.
The Company
My immediate colleagues were all much older than me but I still enjoyed working with them. Although we were all busy there was always time for a laugh or a conversation over coffee.
This was the first time my area had had a summer placement student, but I was given an appropriate introduction to the company and an appropriate level of work and support.
Undergraduate placement students are involved in everything. I went on training courses for CAD programmes, did driver training and took advantage of their personal development scheme.

I have already secured a 6 month placement as part of my degree and at the end of this will produce a presentation to determine whether I am offered a graduate job.
The Culture
There are a lot of placement students and graduates at JLR, so it is easy to organise social events.
Leamington Spa is quite expensive, but there are plenty of student deals.
Well, I don't remember much of it...
I was only there for three months, but if I was there for longer there were many activities that employees can get involved with.
