The Role
Intel has offered me many opportunities to get involved in a variety of projects and expand my knowledge of how a global company operate. The technology sector is the fastest moving industry and I have been exposed to this at Intel through evolution and innovation of products, solutions and also work force transformation. Overall, this has meant that the skill sets I have required will set me up for my final year at university. Finally the support that I have received from my Dell Sales Team and other interns has lead to an enjoyable year at the company :)
My team are a very friendly, approachable group of colleagues, if I set up meetings they are more than happy to help me improve my skills and find more opportunities for career development. However, due to the nature of the company and being in the tech sector means that they are all extremely busy and this does sometimes impact the work I do and the lack of feedback I receive. It is human nature to just accept work unless it is wrong. However, it would be more valuable for me to have more feedback and reviews when work is sent out as this will help me develop. So overall, yes I do feel valued but would like a bit more to ensure my motivation remains high for the remainder of the placement.
If I go out and seek support it will be there and I have a weekly 1:1 with my on-the-job coach which I find extremely beneficial to air any issues I am facing; these are always solved and the necessary support is given. I usually will speak to my supervisor instead of my manager but if necessary I could quite happily set up a meeting with him and discuss any projects I need extra support with.
With sales we have peaks and troughs; sometimes, depending on what time it is during the quarter you will find yourself extremely busy with ad-hoc requests and data. Other times the work load will be quieter but I will always have things to occupy my time. Seeking opportunities has been essential for me to get involved in more projects, making the most of the year.
When they say you will be treated as a valued member of the team you really are. I get to manage things that are going to make a big difference to the team and how we operate. I have been given a lot of responsibility which has been valuable for me, it is crucial to gain a proper insight into a company during your internship so that I can determine whether or not this is something I would like to do in the future.
100% they will help sooo much and I feel more confident going into final year to achieve a good grade as the skill set I have acquired has been extremely extensive. I will have gained a skill set that will not only be beneficial during final year but also taking it into my graduate career and beyond.
The Company
It is a very open planned office which results in a great environment for collaboration and team meetings. Everyone is treated equally, whether you are a manager or an intern. Many of the sales teams are home based and come into the office a few times a week so it means that most of my interactions occur between the fellow sales interns in my area.
As there are 50 interns at Intel the placement scheme is a well throughout year. A handover period with your previous intern is given at the start so that they can teach you the fundamentals of the role and from this you are supported by your on-the-job coach and other team members. Overall, is a well organised job.
I have acquired my set of skills through showing initiative and actively searching for it. There are not necessarily courses that I can get involved in but I have developed myself just through learning and actively getting involved in many projects throughout the year.

Around 15% of interns will be hired back. Personally I would love to explore other opportunities in different industries and use this as a comparison for maybe one day in the future returning as this is an extremely flexible company offering many opportunities of progression with job prospects high. Therefore, for many interns future employment is appealing and for me it isn't the company it is the fact that I would like to gain as much experience in companies like Intel whilst I am young to determine what I would like to do in the future.
The Culture
We have 50 interns based in Swindon alone and therefore this means that the social scene is great. We have a Social club and charity committee that put on events throughout the year and a great handover period at the start of the year. We also have socials that are put on for interns birthdays and private events during the year.
Swindon is an affordable place to be if you pick your house carefully. I was unfortunate and have a very high rent so that means that I have a high cost of living but most interns feel Swindon is an affordable area that has good links with London.
There are a few clubs in the area but we have also been to Bristol on nights out and also Reading due to them both being so close. As there is such a large community of interns it has meant that every night out is fun as so many people go out together. Clubs are always amazing but the company is great!
They have the charity committee that I am head of. We will put on extra activities for the interns to get involved in outside of their day to day jobs. Also site wide have a Sports and social committee with events outside of work. Finally Intel Involved is a committee doing great amounts of good for the local community.
