About You
I really enjoyed the placement and feel it has broadened my knowledge and understanding of what it is like to work in the industry. It exposed me to many day-to-day tasks the surveyors have to completed, and what I one day will be doing. This made me feel prepared for what my placement year will be like and what skills I want to build on before then.
I was given tasks everyday to do and also went out with different surveyors. I felt very welcome and valued throughout the week.
I was given tasks to do everyday, which were first explained to me. The surveyors were also there for me to ask any questions about the reports and anything about the industry and their experiences. This gave me a chance to get insight about those who had been in the industry for a long time and what they recommended about joining the industry.
The week exposed me to many tasks the surveyors had to do everyday and gave me an idea of the process a project goes through. This has enabled me to go away and research more about this process and develop my skills as much as I can before going on a placement year.
The Company
I found it well structured and varied.
The team were very welcoming and were always open to answering any questions I had.
I was able to attend meetings between Directors and also a CPD.
I worked full days for the entire week and participated in many tasks surveyors have to do in their career.
Spending a week at Savills helped me understand the culture of the company and the office I was situated in. It helped me understand how the employees worked and interacted with clients, etc. and how information about projects were discussed between employees (updates).
It showed me what it was like to work in a large company and be part of a team at Savills. It has helped me decided what to focus on when looking for placements next year.
Everything Else
I had a limit of £100 for accommodation, lunch and travel.
I had a lunch with the Directors and other Insight students, got to sit in a meeting, attend a CPD training and work with different employees. I also got introduced to many of the employees on my first day.
There were relaxed and a great opportunity to talk to Directors about future pathways into the industry.
There are many activities for the employees to get involved with outside of work, including meeting at a local bar/restaurant.
Yes, I have found it to be a great opportunity and a brilliant experience to put on your CV and talk about in future interviews,
