The Role
I enjoyed learning about the company and the different roles available.
I felt that the application process was rather disorganised. When waiting to be told if I had got through to the next stage of the process, I was quite often contacted later than promised. This did not make me feel very valued.
Some of the members of HR were extremely supportive, providing guidance to those unsure about which area they wanted to apply to for a summer internship.
The three days were packed with presentations and activities designed to improve our knowledge of the company and the various departments, as well as to interact not only with J.P. Morgan employees but also the other program attendees.
As we were only there for three days there was understandably no opportunity to be given any responsibility.
The three days were particularly useful in developing my presentation skills as well as various competencies such as networking and communication skills. In the morning we were often quizzed on aspects such as that morning's business news, price of gold, price of oil, exchange rates etc which was an enjoyable challenge.
The Company
The other program members were very friendly, creating a positive atmosphere. The employees during networking events were also very friendly and interesting to talk to.
Very well organised, with a schedule for each day.
However, we were only there for three days so this is unsurprising.
National Travel
A successful impression on this program led to being fastracked to an assessment centre for the following year's Summer Internship.
The Culture
There wasn't very much opportunity to socialise after work as there were only two evenings during the placement.
As expected, London is very expensive. However, accommodation was provided for those who lived too far away to commute and travel expenses reimbursed.
The placement was very short so did not get the opportunity to experience the nightlife.
Again, the placement was very short so there was no real opportunity to get involved in such activities. However, my understanding is that for a full-time employee there are plenty of clubs and social activities to get involved with.
