About You
It was a particularly brilliant experience, especially the networking events. I really enjoyed speaking to the representatives from the different divisions in the firms from all sorts of levels in the company's hierarchy. The fact that we were able to choose not one but two divisions of our own choice was very helpful, and persuaded many people I know to change their preference of divisions.
I think the fact that we were able to speak to and interact with people from all sorts of levels and backgrounds meant we were truly valued at the firm. In addition, the level of effort put into this week was inevitable and really made me feel as if I was being valued due to the time being invested in myself.
Not too much, I think having a personal buddy may have been a better idea. At times there was a bit too much to take in during some of the presentations and activities and having some guidance may have been an easy fix to this solution. There was also not much clarity over our method of assessment until the actual day.
I believe, i definitely developed great networking skills as i grabbed numerous people for coffee throughout the week, which was a truly lovely experience. I think the information I received was helpful as a basis for me to build upon and continue to do more research into the division I want to pursue.
The Company
It was structured well, I think the only thing that could be improved was the Monday and the Thursday as I believe, time could have been better utilised and at times there was quite a lot of waiting around. I think we could instead have heard talks such as that from the research department in one of our shadowing days rather than the whole group having to listen to it.
It was very good. Everyone was extremely friendly and always willing to help. I made a lot of great friends and built a network that I shall definitely be looking to make the most of in my future within this industry. Some activities definitely helped lighten the atmosphere, for example the lego game did this particularly well. But generally it was very informative and everyone was happy to help].
I think the company definitely invested a great deal into me. The entire programme allowed us to view a range of different divisions rather than just one which meant I felt as if the company really cared about my own wants and desires and wished to invest time and effort into my own development. I think this could have been improved even more with the help of a personal buddy or mentor.
I think the key to this aspect was definitely meeting representatives from the company. There were numerous opportunities to meet employees who were extremely open and honest in their day to day lives at the firm as well as what is expected of them in their individual jobs. The experience on the trading floor was particularly useful as it was practical experience seeing exactly what it is people do on a daily basis.
The networking again was key, this was because, we were able to learn and understand firsthand from the people who worked at the firm. I believe the culture was one that revolved around teamwork and the willingness to help one another. I really enjoyed my time at the firm and would definitely look for this sort of culture in the firm I would look to work for in the near future. It provided a great insight into it.
As a result of the day, I believe I have decided on a career in the Capital Markets division and this was largely because of the conversations I had with business representatives who worked in this division. The content of the day in the GCIB division, in my opinion, was not very helpful, this is because, there was too much content being fitted into a small period of time and hence, I did not find it particularly useful.
Everything Else
Yes, there were numerous. It was great, and people were also more than happy to meet outside the insight's scheduled timings. There were numerous people you could speak to. My personal favourite was the networking dinner which provided an opportunity to speak to a range of people from different levels and business backgrounds, in addition there were chances during shadowing and during the day.
