About You
I really enjoyed the Barclays Spring Week. An app was made for us and we used it to communicate before the week started, therefore, when we arrived we all knew each other virtually and could put faces to names. HR was incredibly welcoming and the buddy system worked very well. It was great to get an insight into the whole of Front Office at Barclays rather than only 1 specific division.
During the week I felt valued by Barclays. There was a variety of networking opportunities and those alone showcased how much Barclays valued us being there. Many of their employees gave up their time to enable us to continually learn and develop. We were also given buddies. My buddy was great, he was super nice and answered all the questions I had.
A great amount. HR and our buddies were always there for us if we needed anything. In addition, the business representatives we met provided support during the week. I was able to follow up with a lot of the people I met, having coffee catchup's later on in the week.
The presentation skills I developed will definitely assist me in my degree going forward. In addition, the week was a great confidence builder, Every person I got in touch with was quick to respond. Thus, going back to university I will definitely reach out to people I need advice from more often.
The Company
The week had a good structure in terms of for the Markets side of Front Office. We had speed networking and work shadowing for Markets. However, for the IBD side we only really had a real insight into M&A. I wanted more exposure to DCM and ECM.
Great atmosphere. Due to the app, we had begun to get to know each other before the week had started. Everyone was friendly and we had a lot in common, therefore we got on quite easily.
We had a fantastic session on debating and public speaking. That really helped my personal development, The various group work activities also allowed us to personally develop our teamwork skills. The week was mainly geared towards career development to enable us to make an informed decision on which division to pursue an internship in. Barclays hosting the week was a huge investment in each and every one of us.
To a fantastic extent. There was an analyst panel to learn more about what the graduate programme is like. They were incredibly honest and gave us a true insight into the bank. Barclays held a lot of networking events where there was a range of representatives, from the very junior who only joined in February 2017 to extremely senior Global Heads of various businesses. Therefore this enabled us to learn a great deal about what it would be like to work at Barclays full-time.
We were immersed in the Barclays culture during the week. We all did not want to leave because we had had so much fun and everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly. Barclays values are a massive part of their culture. The values have the acronym of RISES: Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship. I definitely now understand the Barclays culture and their values are exemplified by their employees.
Very valuable. The whole week made me decide which area of the bank I want to work in and will pursue going forward. We met various employees who were honest and gave great tips on what is needed to do their job. The analysts provided a great insight into the graduate programme and what is expected of you.
Everything Else
We were given money to cover our expenses during the week.
There were plenty of opportunities. Every day of the Spring Week we met new employees from Barclays. It was great to speak to employees thus learning about what they do and the hours they work. I also got a better understanding of the graduate programme and what the transition from university to full-time work is like.
Great. Many in number. Every day there was at least 1 networking event. We had networking lunches and speed networking. There were opportunities to network with people who work in all of Barclays businesses. Not just employees in front office. We had the opportunity to meet a range of employees from analysts to Managing Directors. My Barclays network has definitely grown as a result of me participating in the spring week.
Yes. We learnt about the Barclays employee networks and the sports teams at Barclays. Places people travel to.
Yes, definitely. I really enjoyed the week. Barclays employees were amazing. Very friendly and willing to give up their time to enable us to learn. HR was incredibly supportive too. As the Spring Week was across front office you get an insight into Banking and Markets to enable you to make an informed decision about which area of Front Office is for you. The Spring Week is a fantastic way to learn more about Barclays and their various divisions.
