The Role
I have very much enjoyed my work placement at Intel Corporation. It is a good company in terms of team culture and the intern environment makes sure that there is never a dull week. It is indeed a good place to develop skills and get used to the work life.
I always feel valued by my colleagues. The team atmosphere is a supporting one, were every persons opinion is valued and considered. The opinions of the interns is very valued by the team as you are able to bring a fresh view on every aspect of the job role and any new ideas are welcomed.
The support and guidance given by management is indeed valuable and good. I meet with my manager on a weekly basis to discuss my progress and to raise any questions. The manager is helpful and will happily answer any job role related questions, as well as any questions regarding career development.
I am quite busy on a daily basis. How busy I am is seasonal, but most of the time I have spare time to work on a work related side project, or contribute to a range of different intern committees. If I feel like I have too much or not enough to do, the manager is more than happy to help find a solution.
I have been given a good amount of responsibility, but is up to the intern as well. The core job role provides a level of responsibility similar to a normal employee. I have found that it is easy to take on more responsibility within the team or in forms of projects.
I have been developing my skills a lot throughout the work placement, and there is also a lot of online training available. I have been able to attend presentation skills training and there are plenty of opportunity to present and gain experience. Time management and excel skills are also skills I have used on a daily basis.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office is relaxed and open. The atmosphere varies depending on the team, but in general there is an open atmosphere where everyone is open for questions or just a chat. There is quite a few social events with the team for team building, which allows you to really get to know your colleges.
The work placement was set up very good. You start out with having over a month with general and job specific training, as well as shadowing and working with a current intern to learn all the daily tasks. You also have a set person on the team to help you with any questions throughout the placement.
Intel Corporation offer a lot of training and opportunities for development. There is a range of different trainings I could attend, which also would benefit me after the work placement. Furthermore, we also have access to online training in a vast amount of topics. I also have to support from my manager to help improve where I need, and utilise my strengths.

Future employment prospects are quite appealing. If I get the opportunity to get rehired, that would be a great chance to start a good career. There is a big array of different roles and business aspects to work in, and it is an ever changing environment, which creates new opportunities as an employee.
The Culture
The social life at Intel Corporation is indeed very good, both among fellow interns and colleagues. There is a range of intern committees which organises a lot of social events, as well as creating opportunities for interns to work together. Within the team, there is a fair bit of team building.
Cost of living and socialising in Swindon can vary quite a bit, but it is overall quite cheap. Accommodation in the area seems to cost around £300 per month for renting a room in a shared house. Socialising in Swindon is quite cheap, but there is not too much to do in the area. Luckily, there is a lot of good places which is only a short train ride away.
The nightlife in Swindon is not the greatest, but when you go out with a good amount of interns it rarely ends up as a bad night. There is a fair amount of pubs in the area, but there is only a few nightclubs. There is however, a lot good places such as Bath or Bristol close by, which offers a better nightlife.
There are some opportunities to get involved in activities, but a lot of the activities are arranged by people working at Intel Corporation. There are many activities such as football, badminton, go karting, etc. There is also a good selection of leisure centres close by, so it is easy to organise your own activities with friends and colleagues.
