About You
I had a great time during my spring insight week at Bank Of America Merrill Lynch. I was based in the Global Markets Technology division was given a great insight into the front office division. I also spend one of the days in the Global Transaction Services division which was also exciting.
I felt very valued during my time at Bank Of America Merrill Lynch, the staff were very friendly and in terms of networking the employees were extremely approachable during the week.
We were given a booklet at the start of the week that contained a timetable and it was never altered so the guidance was very accurate. We were also able to contact HR anytime during the week if we had any issues.
In regards to the skills i learnt during the week, i feel like i will be able to apply them during my course very effectively. for example the use of project management systems in the technology division has given me a greater scope for when i return to university.
The Company
The week was well structured and was never altered which made things easier when referring to the timetable given
Because Bank Of America Merrill Lynch's values include teamwork and diversity, the atmosphere during the week was great. there was high levels of energy and motivation flowing throughout of interns which made the week an experience to remember.
We were given a training exercise to improve our teamwork abilities.
The insight gave a great understanding and this was primarily due to the shadowing opportunities we had during thw week
I had an strong understand of the culture at the bank but the insight week really emphasized the amount of important they put on the culutre at the bank
The shadowing opportunities and content provided throughout the week has given me a clear direction into the decision of my future career.
Everything Else
They paid for accommodation and we were reimbursed travel.
We were encouraged to go network with employees from our desired division at the welcome reception and the careers fair. Networking was never restricted to certain events or times hence why I took the initiative to proactively seek out employees during breaks and lunch in order to grow my network and found out more about BAML and the culture. Employees were easy to approach to and they would provide their emails so you could follow up and if successful arrange a coffee with.
There were three main networking events. The welcome reception on the Monday, the careers fair on the Tuesday and the networking dinner on the Wednesday.
They heavily emphasize CSR and therefore there was a lot of information about societies and charities that you could work for outside of work
I would highly recommend this insight. looks great on the CV and an experience to remember.
