The Role
Personally I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Intel, firstly there is a great intern community and it’s nice to know that there are many other people in the same position as you. Also I have had a great opportunity to develop on my personal skills and be given a chance to really push myself out of my comfort zone. I do fell that it is very much so an organization in which you receive rewards respective of the effort that you put in.
Extremely so, throughout my time here I felt no gap between me as an intern and my fulltime colleagues. I was respected at the same level, received the exact same benefits and had the same support structure. Some feedback I personally received from my team was that they enjoyed having interns in the team because they look at the work with fresh eyes, giving them a totally new perspective.
My team have been excellent, especially with the support which is necessary due to the intricacies of my business area. Weekly 1:1’s are available with my line manager if I need them, where I am free to discuss work related issues or ask for advice. We are all also assigned supervisors who can help with anything you may feel uncomfortable talking to your manager about.
My day to day workload varies quite heavily due to its customer-led nature, however I do have a list of daily activities which need to be completed. However my role requires me to be involved in a number of programs and projects with much more long-term deadline. This allows me to have much more control over my workload and exercise and develop my personal workload management skills.
I think one of the things that surprised me the most when I started, is how much responsibility and accountability you are given. You really are treated like an integral part of the team and your input really is valued. This gives you a real chance to shine throughout your internship and leave a lasting impression.
Prior to starting my internship, a real weak area for me was my presentation skills, it was an area I had never had formal training in until I got to Intel. The training helped massively and I am much more comfortable talking in front of an audience, I believe further improvement in this area just comes from practice over time. Another skill areas that has developed over my time here is my communication skills, which has come from working with Intel’s customers which are based all over the world, so effective communication is paramount. I feel that effective communication skills will be required in my final year and any role I have after completing my degree.
The Company
The atmosphere is great, everyone is always so friendly, I notice little things like how all employees always hold doors open for each other. Although it is obviously a workplace, being a tech company there is definitely scope for some fun/downtime with a games room and collaborative work areas across the site. The work areas are set up in cubes for the most part, however the walls tend to be low so you still feel as though you are sat with your team and can ask questions at any time.
The program seemed extremely well organised to me from the moment I applied I was well informed throughout, all the way until I received my job offer. Contracts came in a speedy fashion, and I had a chance to meet with my team months before my start day on the Intern open day. I found this especially helpful because it gave me a chance to ask a bunch of questions i had about the role and what t i s like to live in Swindon. Also this day gave me the perfect opportunity to meet with the other interns and decide who I want to live with.
When I first joined Intel we were all automatically enrolled into a number of personal development training sessions, such as presentation skills, Coding and Teaching workshops. I feel that not only have my team allowed me to invest my time into things that weren’t directly linked to my operational role, they are happy to support expenses that help my personal progression.

I think future employment prospects look quite good in my experience, I believe it mostly depends on what business area you would like to be a graduate in, because my understanding is that 90% of graduates are hired into Business Operations roles. So as long as you are happy to work in that role and have left a good impression within your time here, you stand in good stead for further employment.
The Culture
Very much so, there are around 50-60 other interns here at Intel and in my year especially everyone seems up for social events. Intel also have an intern social committee in place which are in charge of ensuring that the interns have a great time on placement outside of their work day. The committee also give you the scope to design the social events that work for you, rather than having events plans that may not impress you.
Reasonable
Nightlife is reasonably good in Swindon, there are a few decent clubs which are open and busy on the weekends. However I have begun to enjoy the bars and pubs much more, because there are so many you have a good few to choose from. Also drinks prices are very reasonable here too which is a bonus.
