    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • A very interesting day, which gave me food for thought for future career opportunities. My favourite period was the software development session (which is something that I surprisingly never thought that I would enjoy!) - they used an abstract idea and cleverly linked it to what their day-to-day job is like. Also really enjoyed the investment consulting session - this is something which I might seriously consider as a future career option. If there was anything to improve upon, it would be to have more games/challenges across the whole day.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • An extremely relaxed firm, which was welcoming from the very first moment. Even if someone was lonely (during lunch etc.), i saw on numerous occasions one of the team would go over and introduce themselves etc. in order to incorporate them. Very down-to-earth people and was spoken to as though I was relevant and valued.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Extremely welcoming and well organised when I first came in. I was never lost or didn't know what was going on etc. Even during lunchtime, if it wasn't the HR team, then it was some of the graduates that were being welcoming and kind. Really liked the support from the insurance consulting team, and the way that we had one consultant per table - thought that worked really well if you wanted to ask a question or just generally listen to their advice. If there was anything that I would say could be improved, it would be to have more of this across the different sessions (i.e. smaller groups with someone from the business 'helping out' etc.) However, in terms of guidance/support - couldn't have done much more.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It really did give me an insight into the insurance world - something which I had never considered as a career before. Also helped me think of area's within consultancy/insurance that I would like to try to develop my knowledge in further. I found the career employability session at the end very useful as well. If I were to suggest any other improvements, it would just be to have this an extra 15mins longer - so more questions could be asked and even more useful tips/hints could be given out.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Good structure overall. If I were to improve it, however, then I would try to mix up some of the more active sessions (such as the software development team, or the investment consulting session), so that you don't potentially have one long period where you are sat down for 3 hours listening. Also would recommend that after every session you encourage people to move seats - this would mean that it could break up the length a bit, as well as allow for more networking amongst the other students there.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Morning was quite dry with a lot of talks and information etc., but in the afternoon the activities that we were doing was really fun. Atmosphere was really relaxed and lunch was a great opportunity to network from graduates as well as some of the speakers from across the business.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They spent a lot of time, from various people across the business segments to come and introduce themselves. Especially helped us out with the employability session at the end. I also thought that the Graduate Development Programme was a really good insight into a new thing which I would never of been able to find out about before. Helped me to network more as well.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Really liked the fact that they had a lot of recent graduates or people similar to my age - their experience is especially relevant to me (where as someone who is middle aged, despite their experience being useful, does not have the same similarities as they aren't the same generation).

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Never would've thought that a large firm such as Willis Towers Watson would have such a relaxed and encompassing culture. Thought that the HR consulting speakers really expressed their views on it positively. Seems like a really informal culture, whilst still maintaining its corporate structure.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Opened my eyes to new industries (such as insurance) of which many of them I would never have considered before. Really found the investment consulting division as a career possibility. It also confirmed that I wasn't particularly suited to HR consulting. So overall did a very good job at helping me understand which area of the business I'd like to look into further.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • They covered travel expenses of up to £50 and would go more if you enquired. More than reasonable and extremely helpful - more so than other companies! Also didn't have to pay for lunch, which essentially made the day 'free'. This meant that there was no worries of cost and I could focus on the actual day itself.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Lots of opportunities. Whether it was networking between the different students from top universities across the country, or the consultants themselves during lunch, there as always an opportunity to find out more and gain advice from various people. As I said earlier, if there was more of table switching and more movement imbetween sessions then that would've been even better, but overall was excellent!

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The opportunities themselves were very good. Good range of graduates from various sections of the business, and I liked it how they felt as though they should keep on moving to try and speak to all of the students that were there. If there was any improvement, it would have been to of had more experienced and senior members of WTW, but apart from that it was very good!

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes I found out that during the GDP, there were opportunities to help out in a food bank. Also, across the business there are sports teams which include various senior people (football, cricket etc.). There seemed to be an abundant of opportunities which I think is really important to have as a company.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Overall it was a great opportunity to find out more about a career path which i would have never of considered before. Most of the talks/sessions were extremely interesting and it ended on a real high with the software development challenge. Also met a load of new people my age who I have kept in contact with. With this in mind, it was a great day and I would certainly recommend it to a friend.
