    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • - I enjoyed being part of the team. The employees made us feel like one of them as we could talk to them at any time. -I enjoyed the structure where it had the opportunity to work shadow and gain an insight into all the parts of investment banking -The IPO was interesting to see first hand how it works and what they take into consideration.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • -The best thing about the spring week was how valued I felt. the way the programme was structured to give us such an insight felt like we were employees representing the bank. -The employees talked about how valuable they are in the bank and how they don't want to leave. This was brought down to us as we felt a part of a team.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • -I received a lot of guidance during the spring week from HR who were always there to help with any problem we had. -One thing that would of have helped me if we could have spoken to a mentor before the programme began, someone who could talk to us about the spring week and had an opportunity for a coffee during the spring week would have helped out.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • -The emphasis on communication has made me think about how well I can actually communicate my ideas in a team which I will now take on during any project I have. -The skills sessions were very valuable, telling us that if doesn't matter if you're not the loud one in the group, you can still have an impact to suit your personality which I will use.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • -The structure was great, we didn't have to travel far, also there was something new every 1-2 hours which meant we could try something different every day. - I think the Monday could have possibly been a little shorter as it was the skills sessions a lot of people would have felt drained considering it was the first long day. This meant people felt tired on Tuesday which was part of their division choice.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • -The atmosphere from everyone was amazing, even the students like myself were very friendly towards each other and were excited for the week. -When the employees are friendly it brightens up the atmosphere and we can relax knowing we won't be judged asking questions. Overall, a valuable week one of which will further enhance my career opportunities in the future.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Training was valuable especially with the emphasis on teamwork and communication. I am now able to expand on these and contribute more in my future career. I believe the process made me feel valuable throughout the week as I felt a part of the firm with the employees answering any questions we had. In terms of speaking to employees, i know what it would be like to work at the firm. however, i didn't get much opportunity to explore the bank as we were working in one room for a long time. The culture of teamwork was really emphasised and it was great we had the skill sessions linked in with that to better understand what our personality is like and how we can use our own skills effectively in a team. The social event was great as we could speak to employees on an informal level and talk to them about their hobbies and interests which meant we could bond and have a personal conversation and relate better to them. From this, we learned about the activities employees get up to from business arranged trips. Also, i learned about the travel scheme at the bank where after a few years I could move to another country and work overseas for a few years. overall, a valuable experience that has enhanced my career prospects for the future. one of which i will never forget.
