The Role
I really enjoyed working with the people, the work itself was very interesting and there's a real buzz about working in Canary Wharf.
I felt that people valued the work I did and would let me know this.
I always had a graduate trainee who I could ask for help and who would go out of their way to do so. The rest of the office were also willing to help and I never felt that I did not know what to do.
Some days I had tasks all day, other days there was little to do.
Usually I worked on the tasks myself so was responsible for them being on time, good quality etc.
Working in a large office was an invaluable experience and I gained a lot of knowledge about working in tax for a large company, and about the different client sectors.
The Company
Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was quite social. People would organise to go to the canteen together, usually with people from other departments as well. Often there was something happening outside of the office.
The departments I worked in knew I was coming and had found projects I could work on. However, I was only doing five weeks, not six, which the second department were not aware of.
I felt that KPMG were very concerned with ensuring maximum development.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Definitely somewhere I want to work.
The Culture
I only met other interns at the training, as the London office has so many departments, but there was plenty of socialising with graduates and other colleagues.
I commuted into London each day which worked out cheaper than living in London. Canary Wharf is very expensive!
There are very few places to go in Canary Wharf.
Staff have plenty of events organised for them and there are plenty of CSR opportunities.
