The Role
I really enjoyed my placement with Caterpillar and would recommend it to any undergraduate.
You are directly integrated into the team which allows for you to bond well with them.
The management structure is brilliant and allows for you to develop as an undergraduate.
As a placement student you were treated as any long term employee and given a set of deliverables during your time with Caterpillar.
You were responsible for your own projects and their success . When you had issues you had support around which could help you overcome these.
Over the past 10 months I have learnt a lot of the Manufacturing Engineering environment and hope that the skills I have learnt can carrying my forward with my career.
The Company
The atmosphere was good and it allowed you to open up to any member of the team.
The placement was organised well with the appropriate support structures in place
Some development opportunities have been suggested me and I have completed them such as 6 sigma green belt training.
Caterpillar runs a very good graduate scheme which can be entered from completing a good placement year with them.
The Culture
Various placement and graduate events are run by the YPUK (young professionals UK) team at Caterpillar.
The area is quite expensive for social events and living.
Peterborough nightlife is ok. Could be better, could be worse.
