The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement. Sometime the work was tedious as to be expected, but on the whole, the people were friendly and the work was interesting.
Went to the pub on the first Friday and didn't really look back. Colleagues were always very friendly and very approachable. Age gap didnt seem to be an issue.
My manager was often emailing to see how I was getting on and gave me alot of support. With regards to guidance, she explained to me the next stage of the job process and I could always call if I had a question.
I was generally pretty busy all the way through my placement but it was never manic. The latest I stayed at work was until 19:30 and that was because I was getting a lift with the manager. It probably helps that the summer is quiet season.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility. This was mainly in the form of being given my own audit sections to complete.
Professionalism, accountability, communication and teamwork skills will undoubtedly assist me in my future life.
The Company
This depended on the amount of people in the office at the time. Alot of the time, a large percentage of people would be out at clients (and so will you) so if you are in the office, it can be dull. However, if there are alot of people there, then it is quite enjoyable.
I thought my internship was very well set up. I was expected at my department and always had work to do.
I had 2 days training at the start of my internship and then alot of the personal training and development was on site.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
I had a partner interview at the end of my internship and was informed later that day that I was to be offered a job. My internship was at Bristol but I was able to apply for a job in London.
The Culture
Yes I would say there was a good social scene amongst my fellow placement students. We regularly met up for dinner, drinks and nights out and still keep in contact with each other now.
In Bristol, this is wholly dependent on the area you want to live and the areas you want to socialise. If you want to live in Clifton then expect to be paying alot for the privilege but elsewhere can be relatively cheap. Pubs are also expensive in Clifton but elsewhere it can be quite cheap.
Being a student at Bristol University, I love the Bristol nightlife. There is always somewhere to go on every night of the week.
Yes there were quite a few opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. I was regularly sent emails with offers to play various sports. I myself played cricket once and softball once both of which were alot of fun and a great place to improve relationships with colleagues.
