About You
I really enjoyed the scheme. I was able to learn a lot in my departments and meet a lot of amazing people! The social events they organised for us were very fun as well!
I felt tremendously valued by people at the firm. My supervisors and buddies were very supportive, and they sometimes went the extra mile in explaining complex concepts to me. They also made sure I was given work to do so that I could learn as much as possible on the scheme.
I felt very supported. We were each assigned trainee buddies and supervisors during the two weeks. Trainees were always happy to share their tips and experience. Your supervisors would also be able to give some constructive feedback on your work.
I have developed skills such as teamwork skills (during the client pitch exercise), time management skills (apart from the social events, I did have to juggle multiple commitments!) and interpersonal skills (by meeting people from all different levels). I am sure these skills will greatly assist me in my studies and beyond.
The Company
Very well structured, I could see how much time and effort they put into organising the scheme.
Friendly and collegiate. The people here were all so approachable! At Baker McKenzie, you really don't feel the need to try to fit into a specific mould. They truly value your personality and they make an extra effort to create an inclusive culture.
I was able to attend a departmental meeting in my department, and that was a very nice experience!
I gained much insight into the firm by just talking to people and sharing an office with associate/senior associate/supervisor. This enables me to understand what it would be like to work at the firm as a trainee.
We had quite a lot of social events, we even had a lunch with the Managing Committee at the firm. That was daunting, and it turns out that they were all very friendly, and were keen to share their thoughts about the firm.
Very useful, the experience really reaffirmed my interest in pursuing a career in commercial law!
Everything Else
The pay was definitely good, compared to other City law firms. I believe it was well above the average pay among all law firms.
Yes, plenty!
Very excellent, you could get a sense of the firm's culture by attending those social events. We had a curry night, ping pong at Bounce, welcome drinks, and a three-course welcome lunch etc.
Yes, we had talks on CSR and diversity etc. We could also volunteer to go to the Legal Advice Centre as a vac scheme student (though spaces were very limited).
Yes, absolutely!
