About You
The entire week was great! I met new people, got the opportunity to network with MDs and employees and I got a great insight into the IB industry and what it would be like to work at J.P. Morgan.
I had the feeling that we were the most important feature during the week. Everything was laid out just for us interns and the whole schedule was created so that we can make the best out of the week.
There was a lot of support there from HR and employees who were always open for questions and guidance. If we had any questions we always had people around us to help us.
It stood out to me that you have to put yourself out there for you to be seen and to get all the amazing opportunities that are out there waiting for you. Participating in the presentation workshop, honed my presentation and persuasion skills which I will definitely be needing in the future. Additionally, the communication skills which I used during the networking sessions was very helpful as I now am more confident to speak to more senior employees.
The Company
The insight week was very well structured. We received a schedule which was designed for our benefit only. There were social events, workshops, networking sessions etc.
The atmosphere was amazing and exceeded my expectations. Everyone was very open -minded and eager to learn new things. All the interns were helping each other and supporting each other.
I believe the workshops and the skills sessions were the most interactive and more personal aspect during the week. It was made sure that we had all that we needed to make the most out of the week and it was more than once emphasized to us that the week will be over quick so we should use our time to the best of our ability.
I think a very interesting and unexpected insight during the insight week were the lunch sessions at J.P. Morgan. In that one-hour lunch break in the canteen, you were able to really look at the employees and observe them which can in some cases bring you closer to a company's culture. I found that even during the lunch break there were employees helping out some interns as they were overwhelmed at the diversity of food offered. Additionally, the presentations from every division gave us a good insight of what the job would entail so that the interns could already imagine what a day-to-day role would entail.
Like mentioned in the previous answer, it was very easy to understand the company's culture. Not only because it was laid out to us through a presentation at the beginning of the week but also because the employees really embodied the J.P. Morgan culture.
The content was very helpful as every presenter tried to give a presentation targeting the interns i.e. talking about the recruitment process or showing us the simple layout of what the employees actually do on a daily basis.
Everything Else
The accommodation and travel were paid for me which was great. Additionally, the social events were also paid for. This was great as the interns did not have to worry about money when it came to travel etc.
The networking sessions were very good to get to know people at J.P. Morgan and just have a chat with them about their role at J.P. Morgan and how they started out in the industry. However, the networking sessions were sometimes too short considering the number of employees that were there. It would have been nice to maybe put some signs to which employee works in which division. So an intern that would have been interested in Risk could have selected and gone to the risk employee...this would have made it more effective.
Like mentioned above, there were networking and social events, however, they could have been laid out more effectively
Some employees said that they can sign up to volunteering outside work or go and paint fences with children for instance. However, they did not talk about it explicitly in much more detail.
Yes, I think overall it was an amazing week...my best so far. The interns were great, the employees were very friendly and excited to be there and the opportunities given to us during the week were good.
