The Role
It was very enjoyable, I was given a broad range of tasks and got to work with different people and this experience made me realise that this is definitely what I want to do and who I want to work for!
Everyone gave me work to do and explained really well what was expected, they also gave me great feedback and explained how what I'd done was useful.
I had weekly meetings with my mentor and my manager was always there to answer my questions. I was also able to have a meeting with a manager to give me some guidance on the partner interview at the end of the process.
There were busy times and quiet times but on the whole I felt I had enough work to do to be busy enough.
I was given some responsibility but as I have no training everything I did was checked!
Some of the technical training will be useful in my degree as I am studying an accountancy based subject. Also skills such as telephone manner, meeting note taking etc. have been developed greatly.
The Company
There were always cakes! Everyone was so lovely and it was a friendly atmosphere.
My manager and mentor knew exactly what I was doing and organised work for my first couple of weeks whilst I settled in, after this the other team members gave me work to do as and when it came in. They all took time to consider what they could delegate to me and what meetings they could take me out on so that I was always busy and gaining a broad insight into the department.
I had 2 days training with all the interns where we took part in team building exercises and learnt presentation skills. I had 2 further days technical training after this which gave us insight into what we would be doing and the computer programs we would be using. We also had a CSR day.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I was successful in my partner interview at the end of the placement.
The Culture
Yes there were drinks after work on a couple of nights and we plan to meet up again at Christmas.
I commuted from home by train as this was easiest for me, so rent was free and travel cost about £5 a day.
Pretty busy on the few nights we went out after work! Birmingham is a lovely city.
I didn't really have opportunity to explore these although I am aware these do go on as we got countless emails from various groups within the company!
