About You
The overall experience was very enjoyable. The provided accommodation was very comfortable and helped with getting to know the other people on the insight programme. The programme was well organised and provided many interesting events that gave an insight into what it was like to work at JPMorgan.
Everyone from the company was very friendly and were open to talking about their experience in the company and were happy to offer help. The staff made sure we were sufficiently taken care of.
Many of the events that required some sort of work had supervisors assigned to us which would help out with some questions. Although, in my opinion, this spring insight programme did not require much guidance/support, so this question is not fully applicable.
The programme focused heavily on interpersonal skills and team-working paradigms such as Agile. I found these skills incredibly valuable for producing code as a team, which I think will be useful later in my course since this often isn't explicitly taught.
The Company
The programme was well structured and was flexible enough to adapt a little bit when some events would run over time. The overall experience was that the programme flowed smoothly from one activity to another. Although often the participants weren't totally clear on what the programme was from the beginning.
The general atmosphere was very positive. The other candidates were enthusiastic and engaged and the JPMorgan personnel fed into that enthusiasm with interesting talks and work shadowing events. I felt like I was valued and encouraged to become a part of the company.
The company held many workshops that focused on learning Agile and interpersonal skills. They had many personnel on hand to assist with any questions and to teach us valuable skills that would help us work more efficiently. The company didn't shy away from providing opportunities for me to learn.
The programme scheduled many work shadowing events that allowed me to see what the daily life of an employee at JPMorgan did. This gave a decent overview of what it would be like in a few example departments. Additionally, the networking events allowed me to speak to people in different parts of the company and hear how they experienced the company.
Similarly to the question above, the numerous work shadowing events and networking events explained what it was like to work at JPMorgan and gave an insight into the culture that I could expect if I was to join for a full internship. The description of people from within the company painted a decent picture of the corporate culture.
Naturally, it would be impossible to decide on a career path based on only a 3 day insight programme. However, the work shadowing events allowed me to explore one option and gave me some useful information that I could use to form a better picture of what I could see myself doing in the future. Although the work shadowing events were assigned randomly, so whether the person you were shadowing worked on something you were interested in was more or less luck.
Everything Else
The entire event was cost neutral in terms of travel expenses and accommodation and would provide meals.
JPMorgan provided plenty of networking opportunities and I had the opportunity to meet people from all over the organisation. This was very helpful for forming an intuition for what it would be like to work at the company.
The events themselves were lovely. The locations were scenic and there was plenty of food and drink to keep people comfortable. The staff were interesting and engaging.
Speaking to people during work shadowing opportunities I gained a small insight into what people would do outside of work. Although, overall, this doesn't concern me.
I would certainly recommend this spring insight programme to a friend of mine since the entire experience was very valuable and also very entertaining. I think this was a great experience for me regardless of whether I end up working for JPMorgan in the end.
