About You
The Spring into Technology Spring week at J.P.Morgan was a perfect way for me to be introduced the financial world and see how a financial institution like J.P.Morgan is run as well as experiencing how different departments come together to work as one.
It was apparent that everyone at J.P.Morgan valued us, the Spring Interns, as all of them took the time and effort to plan the program as well as answer any sort of questions we had throughout. This also included key personnels from J.P.Morgan taking out the time during networking events to have a chat with us and answer any questions we had.
From the minute we arrived, there was always someone we could speak to if we had any questions/issues that needed to be dealt with. This was especially true for the team work projects where every team was assigned a mentor, a current J.P.Morgan employee, who was there by the teams side to answer any questions and guide them in the right direction.
During the Spring Week, I was personally able to learn about various new techniques to solve problems. An especially unique technique was that of AGILE which introduced a completely different way of solving real life issues. I'm sure I'll be able to implement this back at university when it comes to any sort of group project.
The Company
All 3 days of the Spring week were well planned. The events were well paced and never seemed to drag on and breaks were given at the appropriate times. The only thing that could be improved would be more time dedicated to Work Shadowing.
One of the greatest things to takeaway from the Spring Week was the incredible atmosphere at J.P.Morgan. All the employees I had a chance to interact with seemed like they were truly loving the work they did and that in turn resulted in such a great atmosphere to potentially work in.
The work shadowing events organised as part of the Spring week were truly great ways for us to get a first hand experience of how J.P.Morgan operates. This is because we were assigned to different employees for certain hours of the day and were able to witness how they go about their day to day job. This gave me the opportunity to see what kind of work they do as well as to ask them what the work atmosphere was like at the company.
It was very valuable. Before the Spring week at J.P.Morgan, I was very worried that all the roles within the Technology department would be purely focused on technology but upon work shadowing and networking with a few employees, I realised that there are many rules that would suit my passion of both technology as well the business aspect. In this way, the networking events and work shadowing were great ways to decide my future path.
Everything Else
The train tickets to and from London were taken care off by the company. They also mentioned that any other travel expenses during the Spring Week program would be reimbursed by them.
J.P.Morgan made sure there were plenty of opportunities for the spring week interns to network with various employees of the company. There was a networking lunch organised on the last day where we had a chance to network with many key personnel from the Technology department of J.P.Morgan. Throughout the 3 days we were also able to network with the employees who were mentoring us during our group projects etc.
The networking events were well organised. The networking lunch on the last day lasted for about an hour. All of the employees present were ready to answer any questions we had and took the time to find out what we were personally interested in. J.P.Morgan made sure there were enough employees during the networking event to keep all the interns engaged in conversations.
Yes, During the graduate panel as well as the work shadowing events, we were informed about the charity based projects that J.P.Morgan employees get involved in. One of the graduates also mentioned to us that they were allowed to set up societies within the company.
Yes, I would definitely recommend this Spring Week program to all my friends. This was such a perfect way to gain an insight on how a financial institution is run. It also showed me how the technology department is run within the company. The spring week was especially good as it gave me an idea of the different roles within the Technology department and I've understood what skills I need to work on to be successful at the company.
