About You
yeah it was good, there was a range of activities and lots of people that were different to talk to. There was a real focus on diversity within the company which was really refreshing and made me feel more comfortable. 41 There were some really good stories and we gained different insights into different individuals stories within the company.
I felt valued as everyone who spoke to us seemed happy and excited to share with us what they do and were really open to answering questions. They went into great detail when sharing these things and also gave us tips for life and education. We were also given regular tea and coffee breaks which was good.
We were given a lot of guidance during the insight week as at the start we were given a booklet with all the weeks activities, including what time and day they were occurring and who was involved in that particular activity. The lady running the programme was really approachable and easy to talk to.
I learnt a lot of things, for example my opinion of the company in terms of what they actually do has changed drastically as before I just thought they supervise and regulate the financial market, whereas now I understand they do much more than that, for example they have campaigns in order to increase consumers knowledge of scams.
The Company
The insight week was structured well as at the beginning of the week we were given a booklet with our schedule for the week. This meant that we knew what speakers were coming in when, who was speaking, what activities we'd be doing and when our breaks were. There was a variety of different activities. however I feel that the first day was a little passive and there wasn't much interaction but other than that it was good.
The atmosphere was good during the insight as the other girls also doing the insight were all really friendly and active. Sometimes Everyone was eager to ask questions to all the different speakers throughout the week. Sometimes it got a bit dull when it was just speaker after speaker with no interaction but other than that it was good.
it was only one week so in terms of personal development there wasn't much, however they did give us a well delivered presentation / workshop on presentation and interview skills which were helpful. There was a lot of one on one with recent graduates which was really helpful.
To a certain extent they did inform us of what it would be like, however we spoke to a lot of different people from lots of different departments. so we mainly got a general overall view. They spoke a lot about diversity, however when walking around there didn't seem to be as much diversity as they seemed to make out but did tell us they were looking to improve this,
Through the insight week, they made it clear to us that 'Diversity' was an aim and a part of their company culture, however when speaking to the different people they didn't seem to have many black people working for them but they did have a few asian people. They did say how they work with a lot of charities and other organisations and encourage helping the community.
it was really valuable in helping me decide my future career path as I personally don't feel like a future in this company would be good for me as I just feel like there's little creativity in the work. Although, maybe in the future when I'm a bit older I may consider working there as they are quite flexible in terms of allowing for share job roles for women who wish to work part time.
Everything Else
Yes there were so many opportunities to meet other employees in the firm and this was definitely a highlight as it was good to actually have chats with the employees one to one. I would definitely recommend doing this insight week if this is the industry you want to go into as they are really happy to give out emails and add you on linkedin and is really easy to make relationships with the different employees.
yeah they were really good
yeah a lot of them do charity work
yeah definitely
