The Role
I really enjoyed it, the company treats its employees really well and the atmosphere is great. Not only that but the amount I've learned is massive...
Despite being an intern you are given quite a lot of responsibility, working directly on commercial projects which will make money for the company. So obviously you're of value!
All the help you need is within the office. However, you are expected to have a good go at things before asking for help!
Due to the nature of the industry, at times there is more or less work than ideal - but it's all managed really well and there's almost always a good balance.
When working directly on commercial projects there is often direct communication with (sometimes major) customers - but there's always someone double-checking your work.
I really think everything I've learnt is going to be massively useful - I've picked up varying degrees of many technologies - C#, .NET, ASP.NET, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
The Company
Really amazing - morale is a big deal to the company and as a result they treat you (I imagine) far better than most companies would...
Some of the training could have been slightly more detailed / better organised, but this improved even in the short time I was there.
Quite a lot - mostly other employee's time.
Quite a few Softwire employees started with internships or trials, so it is taken seriously.
The Culture
Frequent morale/social events, including company picnic, pub trips, film nights and more.
It's London, so it's expensive - but the company often provides a budget, especially for starting/leaving drinks.
It's London!
Any social group that doesn't already exist can just be created.
