    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight day was very enjoyable. The packed schedule and variety of activities meant that the insight day was fast-paced, but also very thorough and informative. In particular, the business game in the afternoon allowed us to become involved in commercial activities; this was engaging and insightful into the employees job role.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt valued throughout the day because we were exposed to members of the company that had a variety of rankings, and covered a diverse range of law. This illustrated the lengths Taylor Wessing was prepared to go to introduce us to all aspects of the company. Furthermore, meeting the trainees during lunch was a great opportunity to engage with employees in a relaxed environment and I found the trainees helpful and happy to answer any queries we had.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The email correspondence prior to the insight day was thorough and informative, I felt fully prepared for the day. During the insight day, there were many members of friendly staff available with any queries we had. When we were playing the business game, there was a member of staff on our table that we could ask questions to. The guidance and support provided made me feel comfortable throughout the day.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Having no previous experience of a commercial law firm, it was interesting to learn about the different departments and experiences of partners and trainees in the firm. Furthermore, the business game was designed to help aid us in our commercial awareness; this is a skill I had never worked on previously but is essential for working in a law firm.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight day was very well-structured. The talks in the morning were helpful, and having a range of shorter talks really helped keep up the pace. The afternoon offered a change from conventional methods of learning through the business game which was a fun and useful activity. Lastly, the drinks at the end of the day was a great way to end the experience. The only way I would improve the day is to show more of the office space, so we could get a better idea of the setting we would work in.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was very focused during the insight day; however, the regular breaks and informal lunch offered the chance to talk to our peers in a relaxed environment. The game was also not too competitive but because we had a good amount of time to work on our pitches, it allowed us to get into the game and enjoy it more. The impression the trainees gave of the company seemed to support the idea that they were a focused, but also fun team to work for.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Taylor Wessing valued our opinions throughout the day, and I felt that they invested their time, resources and expertees in the students. The amount of time given to us for the pitch, and the amount of questions asked by the partners made me feel valued by the firm. Furthermore, they explained the application process to us for vacation schemes and training contracts which showed that they wanted us to keep developing our skills with Taylor Wessing.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Having not had any previous experience with a law firm, the day did help me understand the role of a commercial lawyer. However, I gained more insight on the company culture, rather than the role of a lawyer in the firm. In order to improve, more time should be dedicated to explaining the job role, rather than the application process of a training contract. However, I did ask the trainees questions at lunch about the job role.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The company culture at Taylor Wessing was strongly communicated by the partners and trainees of the firm. i found it more useful talking at the trainees at lunch because they gave us an honest view of working for Taylor Wessing and the social side of the company. The passion from the trainees illustrated the enjoyment they had working at Taylor Wessing.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The day was very valuable as an insight to working in a commercial law firm. Prior to the visiting the firm, I had never stepped foot in a law firm, and after leaving I felt enthused and informed about a future career as a lawyer. Taylor Wessing did an excellent job of providing a lot of information, but also giving us a more general feel of the atmosphere of the firm.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed my travel expenses for this experience. Furthermore, after winning the business game, I was given an Amazon voucher, this was a surprising but lovely thought of Taylor Wessing. They were very efficient with the reimbursement and as long as they were provided notice, they would reimburse expenses to a large amount.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We talked to the trainees at the firm extensively at lunch; they were around to help us with any queries and I found all of them honest and passionate about working for Taylor Wessing. We did network at the end of the day with a few of the employees at the firm, and I got the feeling that if we wanted to talk to any specific departments, Taylor Wessing would have been happy to let us do this.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking events were great during lunch. I found that the employees were approachable and really happy to dedicate their time to answering our queries and giving us an insight into the firm. We did not get much opportunity to network with people other than employees, so incorporating different people in the company for networking would be helpful. The drinks at the end of the day were great fun and helped us all to relax and enjoy our time at the firm.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • The trainees gave us lots of information about the social events and activities outside of work. The various sports teams and balls at the firm allows employees to organise social events. Furthermore, Taylor Wessing seemed to welcome ideas from their employees for activities outside of work.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would recommend this insight to a friend. In particular, there was a range of degree subjects and universities within my peers on the day which highlighted Taylor Wessing's inclusive approach to picking students for the insight day. The insight was very informative so I would recommend it to a friend that might be struggling to decide whether a career in a law firm is the right choice for them.
