The Role
I really enjoyed my time on placement at Intel. The organisational culture means you are able to work in a very friendly and supportive environment allowing you to maximize the experience.
I was constantly thrown in the deep end and challenged to take on important projects and planning important events involving management. This showed how much my team valued my input and I was also asked for my input in important decisions.
I was always given support my both my team members and others outside my team. The company's open culture means its very easy to ask for support and everyone is open to helping or directing you to the appropriate place. However, as none of my team were based in my site it was very difficult to get hands on support on a daily basis when needed and usually had to chase up my team for support.
I would have seasonal periods of being extremely busy to being very quiet. It was dependent on what was going on in the team at the time. But in general could very easily handle my workload.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility and expected to deliver on set targets very strictly. This was a great experience for me and greatly helped improving my organisational skills.
I gained a lot of organisational, planning and time management skills. Also, learnt a lot about how a large corporation like Intel operates and working under pressure.
The Company
The office was always quite lively and as there where about 50 other interns in the office. The atmosphere was very relaxed and generally
The internship was fairly well structured. However, a lot more could have been done to define my role and job structure. A lot of what was put into my job description was very vague and unclearly defined in terms of deliverables on a daily basis. Having a supervisor in the office would've helped also in completing tasks quicker and more efficiently. As a fair amount of times I had very little support available to
We occasionally had training on areas that we needed to work on or were essential to our job roles, But a lot of the training is down to you searching for courses available to employees and taking them. However, there were an extensive amount of resources available to us online,
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
International Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
As nice as it would be to come back, there are very limited opportunities at Intel for graduates and people are only really rehired into Business Operations. Future job prospects are not so good
The Culture
We had an intern social committee that organised nights out for the interns. We occasionally organised nights out and went out on the town which was nice as there was a good group of us that went out frequently.
Swindon is very cheap to live in and has also fairly cheaper bars compared to London
Swindon has one really good club and few smaller nice bars but nightlife isn't particularly great.
There were a lot of opportunities to get involved in charity work and giving back to the community. There were also opportunities to go to schools and educate kids on technology and Intel. These were usually organised by societies or the Intel sports and social community and so were fairly easy to get involved in,
