The Role
Very enjoyable, learned new things every day.
Interns are given real responsibilities, just like normal employees. The things you work on are important to everyone else, so your colleagues very much value you for the work you do!
Excellent help from managers - whenever you get stuck you can just go up to them and ask for guidance as and when you need it.
While you are expected to work hard, you also get to work to targets that you set yourself based upon what you think you can accomplish in a certain time. All projects set for interns last a reasonable length of time and as long as you put in work steadily, you'll never be overloaded with work.
You're given pretty much the exact same responsibilities as normal employees, only in smaller quantities.
I developed a huge amount of programming skills which will no doubt come in very useful for years to come.
The Company
You can take short tea breaks whenever you want, and people occasionally take breaks from work to have a quick chat to break up a long day.
The organisation is fantastic - you'll never be short of things to do
The first couple of weeks are designed purely for training, so that afterwards you can produce high-quality results. Moreover training continues throughout your whole time through talks and meetings with various members of your team and division.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Very comfortable place to work and not badly paid either!
The Culture
Although it gets a lot quieter on weekends as most people seem to go home, during the week there are plenty of gatherings (mainly in the pub!) with the other interns. You'll also most likely be living in a company house while you're there, so there is a very university-like atmosphere to it all.
The cost of living in the company houses is fantastically cheap and going out isn't too expensive either in the local area.
Well...there are pubs! And if you fancy something different then you could always go out in London, which is just a 20 minutes train journey away.
There are countless activities (sports, board games etc.) that can be done at lunch times and after work, so you're bound to find something you enjoy doing.
