The Role
It was a struggle but i think the experience was worth its weight in gold. Learnt so much about myself, about attitude, motivation, self-talk. If you want to learn something about any of those then this internship teaches you them in shades!
Everyone at southwestern is so so so friendly. Willing to lend a helping hand when its needed although alot opf this job requires problem solving! I feel ive made some life long friends and cant wait to see them again after the summer is finished.
My manager was fantastic. Graham Smith is an amazing manager. I guess it depends on who you have but if all the managersd are like mine then theres no need to worry about not having any support. He was always there when i needed to talk to him and helped me continue and remember the reasons i choose to do this internship - which is the hardest thing ive ever attempted! The support is awesome.
Your pretty if you do the job properly Thats one of the challenges of the summer is too stay on schedule and keep doing your demos and getting those sit downs. If you do it properly your busy all day, if you dont then you can easily get bored and demotiavted. Schedule is your lifeline in this job, stick to it.
At southwestern you run your own business for the summer. As first year you have less responsiblility as your only looking after yourself but your still doing everything for yourself and how hard you work and what you make is up to you. this job definitely illustrates that hard work pays off!
Everything ive learnt will help me in my future. Attitude, motivation, confidence, conversational skills, team building and just being out in the world by myself. Its a great experience that ive learnt so much.
The Company
Its not like a "normal" intership you dont work in an office. Your on the bookfield so the atmosphere if what your make of it.
Pretty well. Get all your materials and books from the company. Alot of it is left to you to figure out but thats apart of the internship.
Have a week's sales school and prior to that meetings with your manager. Prep is pretty good but nothign can prepare you for your first day/week. There's no way to prepare for it really, just know your sales talk and go and work hard. Alot of the training is "pratical" whereby you learn on the job!
International Travel
Offer everyone who finishes the chance to work again for the company but in a management position for your second/third/forth etc years. You gratually move up gaining more repsonibility each summer.
The Culture
Everyone was lovely and when we met up on sundays (your day off), everyone was very sociable.
Living depended on how much your rent was with your host family and how much you spend on food and breakfast a week. So its flexible and up to you what you spend.
you dont get to experience that. your out working 13/14plus hours a day!! all you want to do is sleep.
Not really. You get to do a sunday meeting where you do activities with the team but other than that your working mon through sat 7am-9.30pm/10pm most days.
